BACKGROUND OF TARGETLESS REGISTRATION:

• Targetless registration mostly runs on cloud2cloud applications or plane adjustments.

• Cloud2cloud needs min. 60% overlapping between scan neighbours.

WHEN DOES IT WORK?

It works great if we have…- indoor scans, - limited size of room, - no recurrent geometry.

Example: room or floor of a building

• Like indoor scans for a larger area Algorithm works well, but a lot of scans

• Task for registration: Which scans have a correspondence to another one?

• Can take long time for finding constellation

• Using same reference points, a kind of preregistration can be generated (maybe as automatic target finding process)

Types of spheres - Is there a difference between different types of spheres?

Is there a difference between different types of spheres?

BACKGROUND: We offer different types of spheres in our shop.

WHAT WE HAVE TESTED: • Different types of spheres – accuracies from 0.1mm to

0.4mm• Different surfaces of spheres• Different lighting conditions• Different diameters of spheres

For spheres, following criteria are important:

• Roundness• Surface behaviour at sunshine • Fitting of the adapter

How we tested it:

• Test area of 35 meter• Different types of LSE spheres (Basic, Flexi, UltraX, Traveler,

XXL)

Reference sphere FLEXI

Concerning detection properties, the reference sphere Flexi is on the same level as reference sphere Basic. However, Flexi is significantly more sturdy and thus more durable than Basic.

Reference sphere UltraX

The reference sphere UltraX is the most precise one of all three standard spheres. Most scan points for calculation matching are detected on the UltraX sphere.

Reference sphere TRAVELER

The reference sphere Traveler is automatically detected in many scanner settings within up to 20 meters. The laser scanner sphere Traveler is characterized by the small pack size that is attractive especially for frequent travellers.

Reference sphere XXL

The laser scanner reference sphere XXL was designed particularly for large distances. That's why we didn't test a detection in less than 15 meters.

Results

• Spheres with standard size: No significant differences (regarding accuracies, surface, lighting condition)

• XXL is less accurate (production issues)

• Amount of points is important: FARO sphere has less points resulting from smaller diameter (in our test)

Results

• With increasing distance between target and scanner, automatically fitting doesn't work well.

• We didn't consider angles.
