1- Introduction:
Iran as one of the biggest country in Middle East Region and Persian Gulf experience water
shortage, particularly in areas adjacent to South and East of the country.
In other hand possessing about 68 different type of Non-petroleum mineral and about 37 billion
tons of discovered deposits and about 58 billion tons of potentially reserves is counted as one
the 15-strong and mineral –rich countries in the world.
Major parts of Iran’s mines, such as Iron Ore and Copper Mines, are located in south east of
country, especially in Hormozgan, Kerman and Yazd Provinces. For example Golgohar iron ore
mines in Sirjan city with about 1020 million tons of potentially deposits, is considered to be the
biggest iron ore deposits in Middle East or Sarchechmeh Copper Mine is considered as one of
the largest copper mines in the region .
Due to the high potential of the Region, large development projects in mineral industries such
as manufacturing and processing mineral ore, concentrate, pellets, proceeding steel industry,
copper extraction and copper processing is under proceeding.
Development and utilization of above mentioned project require large amount of water
resources. Providing this amount of water is out of local resource potential. Therefore, the use
of sea water is as a serious source of supplying of potable and industry water.
According to this approach, Golgohar Mineral Industrial Complex, National Iranian Copper
Industries Company and Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex for water supply to
existing facilities and the developing projects have placed on the agenda the desalinating and
transmitting of about 110 million cubic meters per year.
Required water will be transmitted to the place of consumption at the path length of about 760
km, from desalination plant in the West Zone of Bandar Abbas.

2-Location and Scope of project:
The project is located in Hormozgan, Kerman and Yazd provinces. Project starts from the West
of Bandar Abbas , the location of the under construction plant (near the shipbuilding factory) and
continues northward through the mountains of Finn and Haji Abad cities and then via the plain
goes to Golgohar Mineral Complex located in southwest of Sirjan and since leeds to
Sarcheshmah Copper Complex located in Southwest of Rafsanjan in Kerman Province.
afterwards the pipeline originates from sarcheshmah to the the North West of Yazd province
where steel industries lacated. A branch of the transmission line is divided into Chadormalu
mines. Figure (2-1) present position of the transmission pipe line.

3- Objectives
The main objective of the project is to supply existing and developmental schemes
water demands for the companies participating in the project as tabulated below:

4 - Project Components:
As shown in Figure (2-1) the present project includes three main parts. The first part from
Bandar Abbas Desalination Plant to Gol Gohar Mineral Complex in Sirjan . The second part
from Golgohar Complex to Sarcheshmah Copper Complex and third part from Sarcheshmah
Copper Complex to steel industrial zone in Ardakan and then to Chadormalu Mineral Industry
in Yazd Province.
4-1- The Specification of Transmission Pipe Line (Part-1)
Desalinated water will be transmitted from Bandar Abbas Pesalination Plant and via pumps by
1600 mm nominal diameter steel pipeline with nominal pressure from 16 to 40 bars to the Gol
Gohar Mine in Sirjan. This pipe line includes seven pump stations with a total power of 125 MW
and a total height of approximately 2400 m of the water column.
7
First part of transmission pipe line with approximate length of 285 km will transmit the water
with the rate of rate 110 MCM per year (4 CMS) from zero elevation from sea level (Bandar
Abbas Desalination Plant) to elevation of 1,800 meters above sea level in the Golgohar region.
For the crossing through the mountains, construction of a tunnel to approximate lengh of 3,000
meters is expected.
The total estimated investment cost of the first part of transmitting pipe line including the cost of
providing pipes, equipment and enforcement costs are about 14000 billion Iranian Rails.
The route of first part of the water transmission pipe line is illustrated in Figure (4-1)
Fig (4-1) –Plan layout of transmission route (Part -1)

4-2- The Specification of Transmission Pipe Line (Part-2)
The water in the second part is pumped by 1300 mm nominal diameter steel pipeline from
reservoir that will be constructed within Golgohar to Sarcheshmah copper complex. This pipe line
consists of four pump stations with a total power of 50 MW and a total height of 1,400 meters.
The nominal pipe pressure varies from 16 to 40 bars, depending on the topography and location
of pumping stations.
Second part of transmission pipe line with approximate length of 135 km will transmit the water
with the rate of rate 75 MCM per year (2.7 CMS) from elevation of 1800 meter to elevation of
2750 meters above sea level in the Sarcheshmah copper complex.
The total estimated investment cost of the second part of transmitting pipe line including the cost
of providing pipes, equipment and Executive costs are about 4,500 billion Iranian Rials.
The route of second part of the water transmission pipe line is illustrated in Figure (4-2)
Fig (4-2) - Plan layout of transmission route (Part -2)

4-3- The Specification of Transmission Pipe Line (Part-3)
The water in the third part is transmitted by 1300 and 900 mm nominal diameter steel pipeline
from reservoir that will be constructed within Sarcheshmah Copper Mines to Steel Industrial
Zone and Chadormalu Mining Industry in Yazd Province .The nominal pipe pressure varies from
16 to 40 bars depending on the topography .
Third part of transmission pipe line with approximate length of 340 km will transmit the water
with the rate of 40 MCM per year (1.5 CMS) to the consumption places.
The total estimated investment cost of the Third part of transmitting pipe line including the cost
of providing pipes, equipment and enforcement costs are about 4400 billion Iranian Rials.
The route of third part of the water transmission pipe line is illustrated in Figure (4-3)

5-Project Estimated Cost:
Cost of the project includes four major parts as follows:
The cost of providing Pipe, Valves and Fitting, Coating of pipe, Execution of
Transmission pipe line and valves basin.
Construction costs include the cost of access roads, tunnels, on the way reservoirs,
vacuum reservoirs and pumping station building.
Cost of supply and installation and commissioning of mechanical and electrical
equipment of pumping stations and transmission lines.
Cost of power supply and the required power transmission lines and required
substations.
Total cost of the project is estimated breakdown of the various components as described in
table 5-1 below:
