In-Season Commitment

• Fall 2010 Attendance Scores• As a team we missed an average of 11% of the total practices

– equal to missing 19.8 school days during the academic year!

• Fall 2011 Attendance Scores• As a team we missed an average of 7% of the total practices

– equal to missing 12.6 school days during the academic year • We had 14 players not miss a single practice and others miss

38%, 30%, 25%, 23%, 20%, 18%, 16%, 14%, 13%, 14%, 13%, 16%, 16%, 11%

• Of these the highest % of AU was 11%! As a team we were only AU 1% - that means that players are missing a lot of practices with “excuses” – some valid, some can probably be avoided

Better But Not good enough

Why do players miss?• Health• Family/Religious Obligations• Appointments • Academics• Other School Commitments• Other…

Time Management

• includes meetings and changing/showering

• how will you spend it?

• usually about 84 minutes a day (combined lunch and 1 study) of “available time”

• Recommended for teenagers

9:15 hours of sleep 7 hours

of school

3 hours of

Football 4:45 remainin

g Breakfast/

Dinner

Daily Necessities (including

commuting)

Family Time

Homework

Leisure (TV, Video Games,

Internet, Friends, etc)

How can we help?

• At least through the time change (possibly beyond) we will start practice at 3:45 in the classroom on Tuesdays and Thursdays (weeks in which Freshmen have games on Thursdays they will start late on Wednesdays)

• All Freshmen and any 10th-12th grade athletes who are not meeting our grades standard will have mandatory study hall from 2:45-3:30 (or get a pass to meet with a teacher)

• All others will have time to go to appointments, meet with teachers, get started on homework, or spend the time as they choose

New In 2012 – Late Starts on Tuesdays and Thursdays

How Can Parents Help?

Freshmen parents schedule everything you can on Tuesday afternoons (ideally so players are back by 4)

JV/V parents schedule everything you can on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons (ideally so players are back by 4)

Monitor your son’s Health – Sleep, Nutrition, Stress

Monitor your son’s Academics – Especially missed assignments

If you need to discipline – save football for last!

How can players help themselves?

Manage your Time! – especially take advantage of study halls

Do your homework!

Get some sleep!

Eat right! – you will get some info on this in the fall

TV, Video Games, Internet will be there when you are done playing football, and they will be BETTER!

FHS Indian Pride Brick Drive Sponsored by the FHS Football Booster Club Paving the way to the future for FHS Football and athletics “ONE TEAM, ONE TRIBE” can be heard frequently in the halls of Farmington High School. It represents spirit, determination and the conviction to win in so many of our athletes. With this same winning spirit, we announce the FHS Indian Pride Brick Drive. Every Farmington High student, alumni, parent, and visitor will enjoy this beautiful new patio, which will be situated adjacent to the Gregory Warren Memorial Field House. It will be built in Summer, 2012.

Proposed FHS brick patio, adjacent to the Gregory

Warren Memorial Field House, 2012

How are we investing the proceeds? Our goal is to direct the proceeds from the drive to the FHS Football Program, and to the continuous upgrade of the athletics facilities and grounds for the field complex at Farmington High.

Thank You!
