Thank you! Mary’s Cupboard would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Sue Raffin and J.A.M. students for volun-teering their time at the Cupboard during our annual “summer cleaning” session. Elizabeth Schwab, Lau-ren Lapergola, Lisa Patterson and Allison Raffin worked so hard in helping us clean and organize our shelves, and for this, we are forever grateful. We at the Queen should be so proud of J.A.M.’s leaders and these teens because they are really putting their faith into action!

Major league baseball has spring training. The NFL has training camp. Nascar has the sprint cup. Just like sports, anything worth achieving in today’s world takes sacrifice and preparation. Every man needs to get in shape and prepare if he is going to be able to suit up and be a player in today’s world. It is even more important if that man is going to be a practicing Catholic. You are already on a team that has a game plan and a work out regiment tai-lored just for you. You have at your disposal trainers and coaches that know what it takes to succeed in this rough and tumble game of life. Only you can decide if you are ready to take the first step. You have to choose for your-self. Who do you trust to get you and you’re family into the end zone? (You are not alone) Please consider joining your fellow Queen Men at Mal-vern retreat house for some one on one with the head coach. Bring your son, dad, friend or just yourself for what we all need, a time out to think about our next play.

FAITH FORMATION
Learning Faith, Living Faith: Good Samaritans?
We often hear stories about “good Samaritans,” strangers who help someone in need. We might think of today’s Gospel in that light. The Samaritan was a “good guy” because he helped the beaten man. It is important to remember the shock value in Jesus’ parables; there’s always a surprise to be found in them! In fact, Jews & Samaritans were bitter rivals in Jesus’ time. They began in 722BC, when the Assyrians conquered Israel’s Northern Kingdom. In an attempt to wipe out the Jewish peo-ple, the Assyrians intermarried with Israelite women, giving birth to mixed-race people. Religiously, Samaritans believed in the God of Israel, but they also worshipped five gods of their own. The Samaritan people were eventually driven to a small nation just north of Jerusalem. Jesus’ listeners would’ve ex-pected the Samaritan to spit on the beaten man, not help. The Catechism echoes Jesus’ command to love even our ene-mies, “to make ourselves the neighbor of those farthest away from us (CCC, #1825). Today’s Gospel expresses the “greatest commandment,” to love God & neighbor” (Luke 10:27). That’s the summary of God’s will for humanity (CCC, #2822)!
Cross Train Your Faith If you have anything you would like to know more about our faith, or sugges-tions for future programs please let us know by contacting Dennis Feltwell at the Parish Center at 215-945-0215 or email dfeltwell@gmail.com.
Did You Know – The most popular best-selling book in the world is great for summer reading. Yes, we are talking about the Bible. Actually, the Bible is a library of 73 good books. There are less in the New Testament, which consists of 27 books. The Bible has romance, murder, war, intrigue, & all of the plots of to-day’s bestsellers. With about 15-20 minutes each day, you can read the Bible cover to cover. There are many online guides to enhance your Bible reading, too. You can pick any of the books to read. A suggestion is to start with one of the Gospels. Since we are in Year C of the three-year cycle for readings at Mass, a good place to start is the Gospel of Luke, the main Gospel for Year C. Frequently we like to read the memoirs of famous peo-ple. We do that by reading the Gospels. Bible scholar Scott Hahn notes in his latest book Consuming the Word that around 155AD, St. Justin Martyr described the Gos-pels as eyewitness documents. He called them “the memoirs of the Apostles.” Enjoy.
