Habit 1 - Be Proactive

• See other side to take care of issues before they become a problem

Identify two proactive choices (taking control of a situation before it controls you)

See other side talk with your teacher about why your grade is suffering, continue to be a hard-‐ working employee, learn what you can do to improve your performance, find solutions instead of complaining about problems

Identify two reactive choices (letting situations control you)

• spend your time complaining to everyone about how unfair the decision was, scrutinize the new person and find their every weakness, slack off while working, become angry when a situation doesn't go your way

Identify four things that are in your circle of control (elements in your life that you have control over)

• your reactions, how you respond to situations, how well you do in school, who you associate with, choices about drugs and alcohol, etc.

Identify four things that are in your circle of no control (elements in your life that you do not have control over)

• feelings, parent's income, how others perceive you, race, gender, where you live, etc.

Habit 2 - Begin with the End in Mind

• stresses the importance of setting and following through on long and short-‐term goals

personal mission statement• help you prioritize what is

important to you

Identify the Five Keys to achieving a goal

• 1 - Count the Cost - What will this cost me in the ways of time, energy, etc.? What are the benefits?2 - Put it in Pen - Write it down and refer to it often3 - Just Do It - Fully commit to the goal4 - Use Momentous Moments - Find moments that create momentum and use them 5 - Rope Up - Get help in achieving your goal

Habit 3 - Put First Things First• prioritizes our tasks and helps us

to accomplish more

Identify the three steps to efficient time planning

• 1 - identify your big rocks first (things of the utmost importance in your week) 2 - block out time for your big rocks3 - schedule everything else

Habit 4 - Think Win-Win

• see the benefits of working together so everyone is successful

Identify and give an example of the win-win approach (everyone wins)

• when everyone is successful, more is accomplished

Habit 5 - Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood

• good listening skills are crucial in relating to others

identify the three genuine listening skills

• 1 - Listen with your eyes, heart, and ears 2 - Stand in their shoes3 - Practice Mirroring

Habit 6 - Synergize

• two or more people work together to create a better solution than one could alone

Habit 7 - Sharpen the Saw • continually renew one's body,

brain, heart, and soul

• exercise, eat healthy, sleep well, relax

How can you "sharpen" the Brain - The Mental Dimension

• read, educate, write, learn new skills

How can you "sharpen" the Heart - The Emotional Dimension

• build relationships [PBA, RBA], give service, laugh

How can you "sharpen" the Soul - The Spiritual Dimension

• meditate, keep a journal, take in quality media
