“Today’s complacency

is tomorrow’s casualty.”

Success in a business can lead to complacency because once a job is done and it is going right it may seem to “every day” or not pose a challenge anymore.

The Current Situation

Key Success Factors

Analysis of Alternatives

Strategic Option

Complacency is growing in the work force and employees are seeking different opportunities elsewhere.

Manager’s need to get involved more

Recognize exceptional work

Ask for feedback

When the leaders show initiative and interest in the job, it will rub off on the employees.

Managers with a passion for the vision will help employees feel the same about the mission

If managers sit back and expect their subordinates do to all the work they set a poor example and do no cause a motivating effect

Incentives and praise may go a long way. An employee doing the same work over and over may get complacent especially without feeling good about the job they are doing

Recognition may set a challenging bar for other employees and cause unmotivated work to cease

Employees may become complacent because they do no feel they are heard

Workers may feel they have things in mind they wish would change and for that reason they are unhappy

Feedback would allow management and employees to be on the same page

Evaluation of different choices available for achieving an objective, usually requiring cost-benefit analysis, life cycle costing, and sensitivity analysis.

Offering incentives

› Would this be a positive use of resources?

› Money incentives or other types?

Mangers getting more involved

› Would their salary suffice with more work being done?

› Managers would need to be willing to step up

Making sure employees are challenged

Benefits

› Less complacency

› Employees working harder

› Holding on to great workers

Risks

› Higher level of complacency

› Employees taking advantage of incentives

The final recommendation would be that

action needs to be taken within all aspects of the company to keep things running smoothly as well as to keep complacency from creeping into the workplace and being destructive. A few simple steps between upper management and the employees can lead to success within the company.
