Play Ball! Fine Motor Game!
Materials Needed 1 Baseball Diamond (Game Board) for each player 1 baseball game piece (Baseball Game Tokens) cutout for each player 1 Score Card 1 penny for each player Tape Dice
Preparation of Game Print out diamond(s) and place in protective plastic sleeve or laminate. Print and place score sheet in protective plastic sleeve or laminate if prefer to re-use. Cut out the small baseball(s). Tape or paste the ball onto one side of the coin to use as child’s game token.
Game Directions
1. This can be a single player or multi-player game. Each player will have their own baseball diamond and baseball game token.
2. To decide which player goes first, each player rolls the die. The player with the highest number goes first.
3. Player Number One places his/her token on the home plate. He/she rolls the die. Refer to game dice code (on Score Card).
4. The child uses his/her index finger (as much as possible) to flick and slide the game token (penny with base-ball image attached) along the baseline to reach the designated base. Even if he/she “over-runs” the bases, the child should eventually flick until he/she reaches each base.
5. For Example – child rolls a 3 (triple). They flick and slide the penny from the home base to the 1st base, from 1st base to 2nd base, and then from 2nd base to the 3rd base. Child can rotate paper as needed when flicking along each baseline.
Using the Score Card- At the conclusion of their turn, the child records the number score that he/she achieves in that inning/turn on the score card. Group Game = If playing in a group, the next player takes his/her turn and repeats steps. After each player takes 9 turns/innings, the total score is added. Winner is the player with the highest score. Individual Game = If playing individually, the player can play against their previous score.
Variations Children may be seated at a table or prone to play.
Use a larger coin.
May substitute with different/multiple fingers or tool to slide penny.
Reduce the number of innings, for time restrictions.
Description This baseball themed table top/floor game is designed to promote development of turn taking, following directions, visual motor, and fine motor skills. Students will enjoy the strategy and chance to be a home run hero!
