Since 1713 this tinypiece of land at the foot ofthe Iberian peninsula has beena colony of the British Empireand, as was demonstrated inthe second World War, it isone of her most valuable pos­sessions.

GUNNERY OFFICE

The largest deportment on a heavy cruiser, the GunneryDeportment has on infinite variety of tasks to perform. Inaddition to manning the guns, plotting rooms and directorsof the Des Moines, the men of the divisions of this departmentare also responsible for replenishings, refuelings, manningthe highlines, and in general, keeping the "Daisy Mae" trimand shipshape. Also a part of the Gunnery Department arethe sharp Marine detachment and the Pilots and men of our"Angel", the helicopter.
