The Five Love Languages of Children

Why 5 Love Languages are Important

• Almost all parents love their children.• Many adults speak only one or two love languages,

and many children grow up feeling not loved.• Understanding love languages help us to love our

children effectively.

There are five ways children express and receive love:

• Physical Touch• Words of Affirmation• Quality Time• Gifts• Acts of Service

Physical Touch• Parents in all cultures recognize the importance of

touching their children. Hugs and kisses are the most common ways of speaking this love language, but there are many other ways too.

Words of Affirmation• In communicating love, words are powerful. Words

of affection, words of praise and encouragement, and words that give positive guidance all speak this love language.

“I love you, honey!”“Great catch!”“You can do it! Don’t give up!”“You’re terrific!” etc.

Quality Time

• Quality time conveys this message: “You are important. I like being with you.”

Gifts

• The giving and receiving of gifts can be a powerful expression of love.

• The size of the gift is not critical here. It can be something as simple as a card. The most important thing is the love that it represents.

How to Discover the Primary Love Language

• Observe how your child expresses love to you and to others.

• Listen to what your child requests most.• Notice what your child complains most about.• Give your child a choice between two options.

How to love your children

• You give heavy doses of the primary love language, then you sprinkle the other four. The child will then learn how to receive all the five love languages and give all the five love languages.
