FOCUS GROUP

FEATURES

Looking at the answers to

this question I think it’s

clear what should feature

in the magazine and gives

me an idea as to what type

of stories to put on the front

cover and the contents

page. New release reviews

got the most votes so I will

incorporate this into my

magazine.

COST

A lot of people said that they

would spend from £1-£4 on a

music magazine so I think that I

will put the price of mine in

between them. It will cost £2.80

as I think this is a reasonable

amount to charge and many

music magazines are around

this sort of price.

GENRE

A lot of people voted for a rock

magazine but I don’t really a lot

or listen to a lot of rock music

and I don’t think I could

produce the best magazine if I

chose this. So I think my genre

will be a progressive R ‘n’ B

magazine or indie.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

I am going to combine the two

options that got the most votes

and do a double page spread

as an interview with a new and

upcoming artist.

LOCATION

People are going to read it

travelling so I will make sure

that it’s interesting and the

stories aren’t too long.

INTERESTED IN

People were interested in a

number of different artists

which showed that people like a

variety. This is good because I

know that I can and should

include a variety of different

artists to ensure people stay

interested.

EXISTING MAGAZINES

Most people asked don’t read

existing music magazines and

a few read magazines such as

NME, Q, Kerrang!, Rock Sound

and Total Guitar. My magazine

might be similar to NME.

BUYING A MUSIC MAGAZINE

People said a number of

different things that would

encourage them to buy a music

magazine. But I think the most

important one is the front cover,

a good front cover will make

people want to buy it. So I will

make sure my front cover is

interesting and good.

FESTIVALS

People were interested in

Reading and Leeds festival so I

will do a feature on this.

FEEDBACK

The feedback I received just supported what I had already decided.

Although I don’t have a name for my magazine yet some of the

people in the focus group gave me a few ideas to think about which

really helped me out. Overall the feedback I got was good and no

one wanted to change anything.

EVALUATION OF QUESTIONNAIRE

Overall the questionnaire went well and helped me to develop the

ideas I already had for my magazine and it also helped to decide

further things. By doing the questionnaire I received answers for

what my magazine should feature and what my target audience

would like to be reading about. So it has helped me a lot and

confirmed what I should and shouldn’t include in the magazine to

make it the best that I can possibly be. The questionnaire also

helped me to work out the genre I wanted my magazine to be.
