HAITI PROJECTS

HAITI PROJECTS

The mission of Haiti Projects is to empower women in rural Haiti to lift themselves out of poverty, become self-sufficient and build community.

HAITI PROJECTS

It does this by providing rural Haitian towns with the educational, cultural, economic, and family planning services necesary to support dignified and self-sustaining life in rural communities.

Rural women face particular challenges.

“Us Haitian women, we have a lot of challenges, but as peasant women we have even more. We truly carry the burden of society. We’re the ones who hustle to feed the household and send the sick to the hospital if need be. We women, we work the land, we raise cattle, we transport merchandise like plantains, yams, and black beans to the capital. If we don’t work, there won’t be any flow of goods.”

“The new library will be solid. Because right now there is a rain we lose books. The construction of the new library will allow us to accomplish exactly the work that we have to do.”

-Issamuel Jean Louis

Haiti Projectsneeds a new facility...

but Fond des Blancs needs more than just a library.

Without such an institution and the services required to maintain it, Fond des Blancs will not be able to retain its best and brightest.

A new library presents a vision for a decentralized Haiti...

a prototype for the future of rural education.
