The Symposium forms part of a series of events centered on Food Design x Education (FDxE), supported by www.fdxe.org, a source of information & orientation for those attending the event. The Symposium will host approximately 30 participants, with each having time for a very short oral presentation, introducing themselves and voicing what they want to add to the discussion (issues, questions and/or vision). The Symposium will begin by a global presentation regarding the construction of Food Design as an emerging trans discipline, and the need and desire to create a corresponding didactics and pedagogy given its specificity. Key words: food, design, education, didactics, pedagogy, eating, social innovation Some of the guiding questions which can guide a collective discussion around this theme include:

1. What might we consider as the fundamental principals and theoretical framework which FDE implies or evokes? What values, visions and methodologies might be intrinsic to FD?

2. What are the possible career paths for Food Designers, existing or potential, and what might a Food Designer's profile or identikit look like?

3. What are logical and natural teaching/learning environments and formats for the FD profile imagined above, also looking beyond traditional academic structures?

Once the issues above are better understood and outlined, the following branching can unfold better:

• Alternative formats and spaces for formal FD education, including different scenarios and prototypes for FDE outside of University academic settings as seen in point 3 above, including business, government, NGO, community driven, etc.

• Alternative non-formal FD educational venues- mainly cultural and social platforms for sensibilization and motivation, including museums and other and community oriented spaces.

• Food venues at higher learning institutions, mainly university cafeterias, but also vending machines, street food, etc. to make FDE an integral part of the learning curricula and culture.

• K-12 FDE starts at the sandbox, continues in the playground and cafeteria. Also looks at relation between K-12 and home environment.

• FDE in context- connection of teaching/learning to social and personal values, consideration of the

influence of science, art, media and the likes. Specificity per region (activity clustering, for now Latin America, North America and Europe) also considering diversity and historical heritage.

As an annex to the discussion we would like to build and share data pertaining to the areas listed below. To this extent we have uploaded relevant contents to the fdxe website and invite you to join us in building these contents and databases:

• Bibliography- printed and online • Points of interest- people, places, events, etc. • Related networks- this is a rapidly growing phenomena, especially when taken to social networks. • Higher education offerings- an up to date panorama of who, what and where around the globe.
