An unprecedented 65.3 million people are forcibly displaced in the world today, including 21.3 million refugees and more than 40 million people who are internally displaced. At the UN Summit for Refugees and Migrants in New York in September nations pledged to make life better for these people.
This event revisits this issue and asks what more needs to be done and are states providing adequate protection and assistance to those in need? What is life like for an internally displaced person, a migrant or refugee today? Can aid agencies respond effectively to these ever more complex and protracted displacement crises? And how do we prevent people being forced to leave their homes and livelihoods?
Panellists: Valerie Amos, Director - SOAS, University of London
Kelly Clements - UN Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees Dominik Stillhart - Director of Operations, ICRC
Samina Ahmed - ICG South Asia Director
Moderator:Lauren Taylor - Al Jazeera English
