• Our group’s choice: Organization issues in FPT University, Ho Chi Minh City Department.

About FPT Corporation

• FPT: The Financing and Promoting Technology Corp.

• FPT Corp. was establish on 09. 13. 1998• FPT Corp. has 10000 staffs and professionals• FPT Corp. is partner of more than 200 largest

technology corporations in the world.

FPT University

• On 09. 08. 2006, FPT University was established

• Mission: train human and provide high quality IT majors and other sectors which related to FPT as well as for the global IT Corp. around the world and IT enterprises in VN.

• In 2009, FU HCM opened economics majors

Current situation of FU HCM through students and employee’s survey.

• In early 2011, official survey ran by FU HCM to asses satisfactory rating

1- Why FU? Technological system and quality of teaching

2- How about the teachers? Generally good3- Facilities? Not as good as other private universities4- Supporting? Ineffective, links between FU and

students are weak

• In order to have a closer view of the situation, our group decided to make our own survey with the participation of class SE0661, SE0761, SB0762, SB0763, SB0765.

• About 60 students gave their satisfactory rating to many aspects of FU, in scale of 10, 1 is lowest while 10 is the highest. The average results are:

Average satisfactory rating is 6/10We can see these results fit well with the official

survey in early 2011

Analyze the situation through the view of Organization behavior, the good and the bad

• Person- Job fit• Person- Organization fit• Hierarchy of need theory• Communication• Formalization and centralization:

1- Person- Job fit

• Every student has enough qualities to follow post-high school education

• Scholarship policy attracts some top students• Most of students have good family

background, which make studying not their main priority

2- Person- Organization fit:

• Many students come to FU without researching much about this university.

• They can’t be shock a lot from the differences of culture, rules and regulations between FPT University and other universities.

• More than 60% of FU student will never graduate, they can not adapt and decide to leave school before finishing that.

Hierarchy of need theory

• Almost all of student in FU are at the 3rd or 4th level, social and esteem.

• FU can definitely satisfy the 2 first level of need.

• 3rd level, social are barely satisfied• 4th and 5th needs are almost dissatisfied.

Communication

• Advanced communication methods using CMS and Mail system.

• Feedback system• Low number of students in a class enhances

interaction between students and lecturer• CMS system is not organized well, while many

students underestimate the importance of mail system. Example: Tuition fee incident of summer semester.

Formalization and centralization

• Many dysfunctional conflicts come from this. • FU have relatively high level of formalization,

rules , many regulations, inflexibility are the problems.

• every question, every request comes straight to a single person.

• Dysfunctional conflicts only cause problems to organizations.

Message

• As senior students of this university said, FU has been changing a lots since established. But there is still a long way to go and require a lot of effort. Through this sort assignment, our group hope that everyone can get an OB view of our University and contribute to improve it.
