Franklin Delano Roosevelt
His disputed Legacy
From: Time Magazine, February 1982
“History as its happens”
Time is an American weekly news magazine published in New York City. It was founded
in 1923. A news magazine is a typed, printed, and published piece of paper, magazine or a
radio or television program, usually weekly, showing articles on current events. News
magazines generally go more in-depth into stories than newspapers or television programs,
trying to give the reader an understanding of the important events, rather than just the facts.
The whole idea of journalism is to be a witness that is why journalism is also paraphrased
as “History as it happens”. Bur sometimes the simple news account of an event that the
audience or reader has witnessed is no longer sufficient. That is why magazines also
provide the reader with special sections or even special editions with in depth information.
Historians use a huge variety of sources to investigate. Reliable magazines, like Time
Magazine, are one of these sources. You can read the article on F.D. Roosevelt to gain
more in depth knowledge and also to analyze how the historical information on this
American president relates to the Reagan presidency in the 80s and to American
economical, social and cultural challenges throughout the years.
