January 2002 – Boston Globe begins to investigate coverage of clergy sexual abuse in Boston.

August – 2011 NCAA presidential Summit of 54 university presidents about changes needed in intercollegiate athletics. In the words of Graham Spanier “Presidents are fed up.”

July 23, 2012 – NCAA – Sanctions announced by consent decree signed by President of Penn State - No post season play for 4 years - Loss of 10 scholarships annually through 2016-17 academic year - Vacate 111 of 409 victories - Establish $60 million endowment for victims of child sexual abuse - 5 years probation for entire Athletic Department Big Ten – Conference additional sanctions

- Withheld $13 million revenue over next 4 years for victims of child sexual abuse.
