AcylationAn acyl chloride is an acyl group bonded to a chlorine atom. Acyl chlorides are made by reaction of the corresponding carboxylic acids with thionyl chloride. Therefore, acyl chlorides are also called acid chlorides

AcylationIn the presence of aluminum chloride, an acyl chloride reacts with benzene (or an activated benzene derivative) to give a phenyl ketone: an acylbenzene.
