From Notification to Participation

How an Enterprise Social Networking approach may transform the way a company promotes talents in the organization and becomes ready to face the new 21st century challenges

Business. Made Social.©2011 IBM Corporation

Why does “Collaboration” matter ......in the context of what is your company's reason to exist ?

Why loosing your time listening about “Collaboration” and “Social” ?

What is in for you (as en employee) and for your enterprise ?

The world has become very complex...and very connected!

And work is no more linear as it was...when everything was planned and processes well-defined !

Every employee is asked to become an “entrepreneur”

Not simply executing actions but, rather, providing solutions to problems

But what will always be importantfor any enterprise are

No Ideas, No Talents=

No Innovation

CEOs, CIOs, CFOs are aligned... … on insights, clients and people skills !

… we need to learn how to manage such complexity!

This is not only important for the “enterprise”....

In this complex world, we all need others to properly

do our job!

Actually, we collaborate because we have no real alternative

We cannot survive to the complexity using only our brain

Let's ask the right questions...on the relation between the world of “collaboration” and the business objectives of an enterprise

Would it be possible to better foster, incubate and cultivate new ideas ?

And HOW ?1

Would it be possible to better exploit those talents ?

And HOW ?2

15

Can talents contribute to the Intellectual capital of the enterprise ?

IBM CEO Study 2010

And HOW ?3

Creativity is the most important leadership quality for next 5 years

Let's open the bag of issues in a typical organisation

Let's start from what we are missing today

Would it be possible to know who has that precise skill...

....I urgently need to accomplish my task ?

Don’t assume you know where skills are They aren’t obvious

Who created it?What experience or skills do they have?

What have others said about this? How have they used it? How have they tagged it?

Do not know yet....

Which one to use ?

Maze to information

The Knowledge Sharing gap

Organizational boundaries

Silos of Content

Information Loss

Communities and Teams

The big picture

Would addressing those point help making the enterprise more effective ?

Do they make sense to you (employee) and to your enterprise ?

Actually, we are not discovering these issues today....

We tried several paths....

We tried with email...E-Mail has been synonym for Collaboration for the last 2 decades....

33

But now we realize that, whilst important...

e-Mail is certainly not the only way to collaborate

We tried with Portal... Pushing Content

But it is always a one-way communication

Someone has the right to write...… and many have the duty to read !

36

We tried with Document Sharing...

… butknowledge

is no moreonly in our

documents

37

Actually, we have always known that....

knowledge

is in our relationships

38

The opposite of NETworking

isNOT-working

So, perhaps, in this changing world we start realizing that

So, perhaps this is right moment you should consider “Social Business”

And why does this matter to you and to your enterprise today

42

What is NOT and Enterprise Social Network ?

A way to build your “backup plan” ....

43

What is NOT and Enterprise Social Network ?

A way to find new friends

44

So, what is anEnterprise Social Network ?

And why should we (employers and employees) care about it ?

A (the) way to build and evolve the intellectual capital of the enterprise

What is an Enterprise Social Network ?From the “Company Management”point of view

A (the) way to build the sense of belonging

What is an Enterprise Social Network ?From the “Company Management”point of view

47

Something which allows us to do our job … better !

What is an Enterprise Social Network ?From the “Employee”point of view

So, let's put the basis to define what an Enterprise Social Network

should accomplish in order to be useful for you and for your enterprise

An enterprise needs to recognize and value the diversity of people

2

Collaboration should not become an alternative to work

empower people in the context of what they do
