The Pi CrustExcellence As the semester comes to a close, I am

happy to report that the Pi Chapter has had another successful term. We have become a leading fraternity on Allegheny’s campus with 31 brothers excelling in numerous facets of collegiate life. Our brothers hold leadership positionsin a wide array of organizations on campus, includingStudent Government, theatre, and Bonner ServiceLeaders. We also maintained a grade point average of 3.22,which was amongst the highest on campus. Thisachievement is a recognition of our hard work and aconstant devotion to our values.

We have been highly successful in the last semester butwe are even more excited about the upcoming one. We willbe launching a professional development program to helpour brothers achieve their goals. This program will includeresume builders and the launch of the Pi Chapter GatorConnect Network. We look forward to working with ourgraduate brothers to make this program a reality. Thechapter also has numerous philanthropic and serviceevents planned that will continue to provide support forour partners at the USO, The American Red Cross and theCenter for Family Services in Meadville.

I hope you see that our chapter is embodying the valuesof Phi Gamma Delta and we are committed to growingpersonally and as a chapter. The Pi Chapter's varsity athletes started for numerousteams and set multiple records throughout the fall seasonwith the support of their brothers.

Brother Jonas Skatum ’17, a defender on the varsity soccerteam, scored a pivotal goal in the Gators' 3-2 road win overHiram in October. Brother Joe Desanti ‘17, an offensivelineman on the varsity football team, helped the Gators to a26-21 homecoming win over Oberlin. Brother Trevor Gant '18proved himself to play a pivotal role on the Gators' ClubHockey team. Trevor is currently in his third season with theteam.

Brother Matt Nardozzi ‘19 (pictured above) dominated hiscompetition, finishing races as much as a minute before theother swimmers in his events. Nardozzi guided the Gators tomultiple wins. After placing first in the 500m free, 1000m freeand the 400m Individual Medley at the Erie Cup, he wasnamed the NCAC Athlete of the Week. Nardozzi is the schoolrecord holder for the 400m IM. We are proud of these brothers’ successes and can't wait tosee what they accomplish during the spring semester.

FIJIs Improve the Meadville Community During the fall semester our members committed to increasing ourservice to the Meadville community. Through partnerships with the Officeof Civic Engagement, the chapter completed numerous skilled projects forresidents in need. These projects included building a deck, replacing a roofand resetting a home's foundation. Completing these projects not onlyhelped the community but also provided us with an opportunity to bondwith our brothers and new members.

We also hosted Mac 'n Cheese with the FIJIs, a philanthropy event inwhich brothers cooked, prepared and served over 100 students, faculty andadministration and raised over $900 for the Center for Family Services ofMeadville.

By the end of the semester the chapter completed over 1000 hours ofcommunity service as well as hosted two blood drives that collected over115 units of blood, the equivalent of saving over 350 lives. The chapter islooking forward to hosting multiple philanthropy events in the springsemester to continue to help the local community. Brothers volunteering on Make a Difference day.

Brother Spotlight: Zach Iezzi '18 Volunteers in Nicaragua

This summer, Corresponding Secretary Zach Iezzi traveled toNicaragua on a school trip for two weeks to volunteer at ProjectChacocente. This was a site located in the rural areas surrounding thecapital Managua, and in the shadow of the Masaya volcano.

Project Chacocente is home to 10 families who were givenresources to move out of the Managua dump and start their livesanew. While there, Zach and his peers helped build a wall around theschool grounds to protect one of the area’s only sources of internet.Additionally, they dug a septic tank for the animal stables on thecompound.

“My favorite part about the whole trip was the children,” Zach says,“at the end of each day, we would play basketball with them for aboutan hour before we returned to where we were staying. One of thehardest things I have ever done was saying goodbye to those kids atthe end of the two weeks.”
