No. 1 Oklahoma (1-0) vs. No. 5 Florida State (2-0)
A clash of two top five teams that could have a huge impact on the young season.
Oklahoma looks to have a repeat performance from last season, when it dominated the Seminoles 47-17 in Norman, Okla. A victory would keep the Sooners’ hopes alive
for a national championship. The Seminoles’ defense has only allowed 275 yards through the first two games. FSU will also have home field advantage, where it has
won ten of 11. This is the first time the Sooners will play in Tallahassee, and it is their first road game against a top five non-conference opponent since 1988.

This Week in History
Here’s a look back at some of those unforgettable moments in
college football history for the week of Sept. 12th - 18th:
Sept. 12, 1981 - Vanderbilt opened its new stadium with an
upset over Maryland, 23-17 in Nashville, Tenn. Vanderbilt
quarterback Whit Taylor, threw for 259 yards and two
touchdowns. He led his team on an 86 yard scoring drive.
Wide receiver Phil Roach caught a five-yard touchdown pass to
secure the victory with five minutes left in the game.
Sept. 13, 2003 - Two College Hall of Fame coaches went to
battle as head coach John Robinson and UNLV traveled to
Madison to take on head coach Barry Alvarez and No. 15
Wisconsin. The Rebels sprung a 23-5 upset on the Badgers.
UNLV’s safety Jamaal Brimmer had an impressive day with 11
tackles, two sacks, returned a fumble 55 yards for a touchdown
and recorded two interceptions, which set up two scores for
the Rebels. The win marked UNLV’s first victory over a ranked
non-conference opponent since 1981.
Sept. 14, 1991 - No. 20 Texas A&M topped LSU 45-7 in College
Station, Tex. Aggies’ running back Greg Hill stole the show
when he turned in the greatest debut by a freshman tailback in
college football history. He ran for 212 yards and two
touchdowns on 30 carries. He recorded 1,216 rushing yards
that season, a school record for a freshman.
Sept. 17, 1988 - The 10th-ranked Florida State Seminoles went
on the road to pull out an upset against the third ranked
Clemson Tigers 24-21. When the game was tied at 21-21 with
1:31 to play, FSU’s head coach Bobby Bowden called for a fake
punt from his own 21-yard line. Seminoles cornerback LeRoy
Butler took the fake 76 yards. With 32 seconds remaining,
FSU’s Richie Andrews nailed the 19-yard field goal.
Sept. 18, 1965 - Chuck Hughes turned in a recording setting day
when he reeled in 10 passes for 349 yards for UTEP. Hughes’
34.9 yards per reception average is the most in college football
history for players with 10 or more receptions. UTEP
dominated North Texas, 61-15, in El Paso, Tex.

No. 15 Michigan State at Notre Dame
Sat., Sept. 17, 12:30 p.m. (NBC)
Nine of the last 11 meetings between Michigan State and
Notre Dame have been decided by seven points or less.
The Spartans’ defense has been dominant in the first two
games, only allowing six points. The last two matchups
have gone down to the wire, including last season when
Michigan State won in overtime on a fake field goal.
No. 23 Texas at UCLA
Sat., Sept. 17, 12:30 p.m. (ABC)
Texas continues to shuffle its quarterbacks. Case
McCoy, brother of former Longhorn quarterback Colt
McCoy, will get the start this week against UCLA. He
led the game winning drive in the fourth quarter last
week against BYU. UCLA hopes to have quarterback
Kevin Prince and linebacker Glenn Love back from
injuries. The last time these teams met in Pasadena, the
Bruins won 49-31.
No. 17 Ohio State at Miami (FL)
Sat., Sept. 17, 4:30 p.m. (ESPN)
Miami was off last week, while Ohio State escaped an
upset bid by Toledo. Buckeye quarterback Joe
Bauserman will get his first road start and the Hurricanes
are looking for their first win of the season under new
head coach Al Golden.

Tune in for this week’s games that you won’t want to miss (All times MST):
Fiesta Bowl Team of the Week
No. 3 LSU at No. 25 Mississippi State
Thurs., Sept. 15, 5:00 p.m. (ESPN)
LSU has Mississippi State’s number. The Tigers have
won 11 in a row against the Bulldogs. Last season,
the LSU defense held Mississippi State to seven
points. The Bulldogs lead the SEC in total offense,
averaging 588 yards per game and have scored 11
touchdowns in two games this season.
No. 21 Auburn at Clemson
Sat., Sept. 17, 9:00 a.m. (Big Ten Network)
It’s the battle of the Tigers. Auburn looks to extend its 17-game winning streak after yet another dramatic win
last week against Mississippi State. The defending national champions are undefeated in their last 14 meetings against Clemson. Clemson is in search of its
first 3-0 start since 2007 when it won its first four
games of the season.
Washington at No. 11 Nebraska
Sat., Sept. 17, 12:30 p.m. (ABC)
This will be the third meeting in less than a year for
the two teams. Nebraska defeated Washington in
their regular season matchup last season, but the
Huskies went on to defeat the Cornhuskers in the
Holiday Bowl. The biggest difference between the
two games, Nebraska scored 56 points in the first
game and only seven in their second meeting.
The Michigan Wolverines (2-0) rallied two times in the final 75 seconds to win, which earned them the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
National Team of the Week for games of the weekend of Sept. 10. Wolverine quarterback Denard Robinson threw a 16-yard pass to Roy Roundtree with two seconds left, lifting Michigan to a 35-31 victory over Notre Dame in front of more than
100,000 fans in the first night game ever played at Michigan Stadium. Robinson also connected with Vincent Smith for a 21-yard touchdown with 1:12 left, giving Michigan its
first lead. But Notre Dame was not finished. The Irish rallied to retake the lead with a touchdown pass with 30 seconds remaining in the game. Robinson’s 64-yard completion
on the final drive put Michigan in position for the winning play. For more information on the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week, go to footballwriters.com or
