GENDER EQUALITYSUBMITTED BY:

MITUSHI AGARWALRAHUL RAGHUNATH

HISTORY

In 1405, Cristine de Pizan wrote in her book ‘The Book of

the City of Ladies’ that the oppression of women is founded

on irrational prejudice.

The movement towards gender equality in western countries

began with the Suffragette movement of the late 19th

century, which sought to allow women to vote and hold

elected office.

During the Second World War, the general departure of able

bodied men for war required women to take up “male” roles

on a large scale, leading to a major shift towards equality of

women.
