General Manager...

Branchout young people and youth

workers decided to offer some

Christmas cheer and good will to

people and services in the commu-

nity, thanking them for their work

throughout the year. Our young

people were inspired to do this

after watching the movie “Pay it

Forward”. They discussed the idea

and concept behind the movie, and

then decided to offer gifts of home-

made apricot balls and chocolate

truffles to the following organisa-

tions and services in Gladstone: Qld

Fire and Rescue Service, Qld Ambu-

lance Service, nurses at Child and

Youth Mental Health and the Glad-

stone Base Hospital. Young people

spent a few days in the kitchen pre-

paring the goodies and then deliv-

ered on Friday 5 December 2014.

Another very busy year is winding down at RCS. We have seen the establishment of the Alternative Learning Centre at Branchout – many young lives being helped along with this program, gaining valuable pathways to education. The Community Kitchen is gaining increasing popularity with our tenants, who are enjoying cooking nutritious, cost effective meals. Rockhampton Youth Workers are making a big difference, with young lives at the headspace facility in Rockhampton, with their group work and the Youth and Family team have reached approximately 34 families, with their programs for parents of adolescent children. The big issues for RCS have been working through National Regula-tory System to determine capacity for compliance, level of tier. We are hoping to hear the news from the Registrar’s Office by Christ-mas this year – that would be a great note to end the year on. Roseberry is working hard ,with other consortium members, for headspace for Gladstone – this is a real win for Gladstone’s young

people – lots of work is yet to be done to get this project to fruition, but it will be well worth the challenge. I will keep eve-ryone posted with news on headspace. It is particularly around this time of year, that we have many very generous dona-tions from numerous people in Gladstone and Rockhampton – to you I say thank you. The smallest of gifts brings a smile to the less fortunate and vulnerable people, we see here every day at RCS – your do-nations and gifts go a very long way. Merry Christmas to one and all; stay safe over the festive season - I look forward to catching up with you all in 2015.

The Youth and Family Services Team would like to

say thank you to the Gladstone region for another

fantastic year.

The team has been very busy with unprecedented

numbers of referrals, program development and

facilitation, welcoming students/volunteers, the

inaugural Gladstone Homeless Connect Event and

the Headspace 4 Gladstone committee.

Rockhampton TIL and Jacks

House staff have been pre-

senting group workshops at

headspace Rockhampton

over the last few months.

These groups cover topics

such as cooking, health and

hygiene, self- development

from the Sense Ability Suite,

relationships and some fun

stuff too such as tie-dye and

scrapbooking. The groups are

going really well with high

numbers of regular

attendees. The feedback

from attendees is very posi-

tive with young people who

are difficult to engage in oth-

er areas showing keen inter-

est in attending regularly.

Staff and attendees have had

some fun with these work-

shops provoking laughter and

enjoyment as well as thought

provoking conversations.

The Board, Management and Staff of Roseberry Community Services Limited extend to you and your families our very best wishes for the Festive Season. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday and look forward to our continued association in the New Year. Our offices will close on Wednesday 24 December 2014 and reopen on Monday 5 January 2015. Roseberry House and Jack’s House will remain open over the Christmas period.

Thank You to Roseberry House Staff for all your great work over this busy year. Your work makes a real difference to many young peoples lives. Roseberry House has accommodated 85 young people so far this year, with most of the year the shelter being at capacity. Our Staff have worked very hard to assist clients, helping them to reach their goals of living inde-pendently. This has led to some fantastic out-comes for young people in our community: hous-ing, employment, training and improved well being. We wish everyone a fabulous holiday season.

It is an annual tradition at

the William St Community

Room for tenants to come

together with the RCS Hous-

ing Officers for a Christmas

celebration. This year it is

happening the weekend

before Christmas. Tenants

who participate bring a plate

of food and RCS contributes

also. A number of William

St residents spent a day dec-

orating the community

room with Christmas deco-

rations and of course, dress-

ing the tree. Happy Christ-

mas to all the tenants, and

wishing them all a joyous

and peaceful 2015!
