Georgian Architecture

By: Kurt Smith

Houghton Hall in Norfolk

Typically built between 1720-1840

1-2 stories high

Made of wood in the North and stone in the South (United States)

These buildings are symmetrical, have a 9 on 9 or 7 on 7 window pattern, and have intricate designs above and around the door

Modern Georgian home in Australia

The style is very symmetrical, there are dull red and brown colors, a rough texture, and a very good balance

They were built in the United States from the New England area, down through Georgia, in England during king George I-IV, and all the way up to Canada in the mid 1700's

Generally, they are built for residential houses but can be used for government buildings, such as the picture below
