A child’s storyTalking about acquiring new habits

Hello. My name is Olivia. I am 8 years old and I live in Maine. I am in the 3rd grade.

My parents got divorced when I was 6 years old. This caused a lot of changes in my life that I had to get used to.

Individually, read your text. Then, in groups of 5, tell the rest of the group what your text is about.

Olivia had to adjust to the changes that divorce brought to her family.

She had to become familiar with new

situations and acquire new habits.

In your groups, and taking into account the information you all have shared, decide what things from the list below Olivia had to get used to:

• Living without her dog • Not living with her dad • Sleeping on her own without being afraid • Seeing her parents going out with other people • Going to a new school • Making new friends • Living in a new house • Stopping seeing her grandparents
