Framing The Session

• Using the mouse is a powerful way to use the computer. Using hotkeys is as well.

• Why use hotkeys?

They can help increase the speed with which you do ordinary tasks on the computer.

Teaching

• Which hotkeys are the most useful?

• Which hotkeys work with applications and the OS?

• Which hotkeys work only with applications?

• Which hotkeys work only with the OS?

Guided Practice

• We will review what each hotkey does using the following website. Follow and repeat what I do.

Work Time

Activity 1Getting Started

• Students will play the PowerPoint game without looking at their cheat sheets.

• Students will be given the opportunity to use the hotkeys in the game on their computers and practice using each of them.

Activity 2Scavenger Hunt

1. Open a new document in Microsoft Word2. Go to this website - http://www.wtmelon.com/a12Poems.html3. Copy the text of the poem4. Paste the text into Microsoft Word5. Save it your iSquad folder as Poem 16. Find and replace tape deck with iPod7. Find an replace fax number with email8. Find and replace pager with PSP9. Bold the first word of every line10. Underline every other word11. Italicize the words between the underlined words12. If you make a mistake, undo it13. If you undo something by mistake, redo it14. Save it15. Select all the text16. Copy all the text17. Create a new Microsoft Word document18. Paste the text into the new document19. Save it to you iSquad folder as Poem 2

• Choose another poem from the website• Follow the steps listed below1. Open a new document in Microsoft Word2. Go to this website -
