• Individual student practice – students do not speak enough
• Pair activities – students off task, hard to monitor and correct errors
• Presentations – take days of class time and other students are not engaged

• All students can speak at once in a lab and it can be presented on a website, blog, or wiki for an authentic audience
• Students can do speaking activities at home with a microphone or telephone and you can listen to them at your convenience
