● Donotallowthecameratomaintaincontactwithskinforextendedperiods.

Evenifthecameradoesnotfeelhot,thismaycauselow-temperatureburns,manifestedinrednessoftheskinorblistering.Useatripodinhotplaces,orifyouhavepoorcirculationorinsensitiveskin.

Charging the Battery Pack

1 Insert the battery pack.● Removethecoverfromthebatterypack,alignthe marksonthebatterypackandcharger,andinsertthebatterypackbypushingitin(1)anddown(2).

2 Charge the battery pack. ● LC-E17: Flipouttheplug(1),andplugthechargerintoapoweroutlet(2).

Inserting the Battery Pack and Memory Card

1 Open the cover.● Slidethecover(1)andopenit(2).

2 Insert the battery pack.● Holdingthebatterypackwiththeterminals(1)facingasshown,movethebatterylockdown(2)andinsertuntilthelockclicksshut.● Ifyouinsertthebatterypackfacingthewrongway,itcannotbelockedintothecorrectposition.Alwaysconfirmthatthebatterypackisfacingtherightwayandlockswheninserted.

3 Check the card’s write-protect tab and insert the memory card.● Recordingisnotpossibleonmemorycardswithawrite-protecttabwhenthetabisinthelockedposition.Slidethetabtotheunlockedposition(1).● Insertthememorycardwiththelabel(2)facingasshownuntilitclicksintoplace.● Makesurethememorycardisfacingtherightwaywhenyouinsertit.Insertingmemorycardsfacingthewrongwaymaydamagethecamera.

4 Close the cover.● Lowerthecover(1)andholditdownasyouslideit,untilitclicksintotheclosedposition(2).

Setting the Date and Time

1 Turn the camera on.● PresstheON/OFFbutton.● The[Date/Time]screenisdisplayed.

2 Set the date and time.● Pressthe[ ][ ]buttonstochooseanoption.● Pressthe[ ][ ]buttonsorturnthe[ ]dialtospecifythedate.● Whenfinished,pressthe[ ]button.

Changing the Date and Time

Toadjustthedateandtimeonceyouhavesetit,dothefollowing.

1 Press the [ ] button.

2 Press the [ ][ ] buttons or use the [ ] dial to select the [ 2] tab.

3 Press the [ ][ ] buttons or turn the [ ] dial to choose [Date/Time], and then press the [ ] button.

4 Follow step 2 in “Setting the Date and Time” to adjust the settings.

5 Press the [ ] button.

1 Make sure the camera is off.

2 Remove the caps.● Removetherearlenscapandthebodycapbyturningthemasshownbythearrows.

3 Attach the lens.● Alignthemountindexes(thewhitecircles)onthelensandcamera,andturnthelensuntilitclicksintoplace,asshownbythearrow.

4 Remove the front lens cap.

● Turnthezoomringonthelenstozoom.● Zoombeforefocusing,becausetheimagemaybecomeunfocusedifyoufocusbeforezooming.

● Toprotectthelens,keepthelenscaponwhenthecameraisnotinuse.

Detaching a Lens

● Makesurethecameraisoff.● Whilepressingthelensreleasebutton(1),turnthelensasshownbythearrow(2).● Turnthelensuntilitstopsandthendetachit(3).● Attachthelenscaptothedetachedlens.

● MinimizingDust- Whenchanginglenses,doitquicklyinaplacewithminimaldust.- Whenstoringthecamerawithoutalensattached,besuretoattachthebodycaptothecamera.- Removedustonthebodycapbeforeattachingit.

● Theimagesensorissmallerthanthe35mmformat,whichcausestheattachedlens’sfocallengthtoappearmagnifiedabout1.6x.Forexample,an18–55mmfocallengthwouldbeequivalenttoanapprox.29–88mmfocallengthona35mmcamera.

Attaching EF and EF-S Lenses

IfyouuseMountAdapterEF-EOSM,youcanuseEFandEF-Slenses.

1 Make sure the camera is off.

2 Remove the caps.● Removethecaps,followingstep2in“AttachingaLens”(=21).

3 Attach the lens to the adapter.● TomountanEFlens,alignthemountindexes(theredcircles)onthelensandadapter,andturnthelensuntilitclicksintoplace,asshownbythearrow.● TomountanEF-Slens,alignthemountindexes(thewhitesquares)onthelensandadapter,andturnthelensuntilitclicksintoplace,asshownbythearrow.

4 Attach the adapter to the camera.● Alignthemountindexes(thewhitecircles)ontheadapterandcamera.Turnthelensasshownbythearrowuntilitclicksintoplace.

● Ifusingalensthatisheavierthanthecamera,makesuresupportisprovidedforthelenswhilecarryingandshooting.

● Usingadaptersmayextendtheminimumshootingdistanceofthelensorchangeitsmaximummagnificationratioorshootingrange.

● Ifthefrontpart(focusingring)ofthelensrotatesduringautofocusing,donottouchtherotatingpart.

● Thefocuspresetfunctiononsomesupertelephotolensesisunavailable.Also,thepowerzoomfunctionoflensEF35–80mmf/4–5.6PZisunavailable.

Detaching a Lens

1 Detach the adapter.● Makesurethecameraisoff.● Whilepressingthelensreleasebutton,turntheadapter(withlensattached)asshownbythearrow.● Turntheadapteruntilitstopsandthendetachit.

2 Detach the lens.● Whilepushingdownonthedetachleverontheadapter,turnthelenscounterclockwise.● Turnthelensuntilitstopsandthendetachit.● Attachthelenscaptothedetachedlens.

Using a Tripod

Usethetripodfootincludedwiththeadaptertoattachthecameratoatripod.Donotusethecamera’stripodsocket.

● Attachthetripodfoottotheadapter.Usetheturningdialtosecureitfirmlyinplace.● Attachthetripodtothesocketofthetripodfoot.

● IfusinganEFlenswithatripodfoot(suchassupertelephotolenses),attachthetripodfootsocketdirectlytothetripod.

Stabilizing the Image

Ifusingalenswithanimagestabilizationfunction,youcancompensateforsmallcameramovements(shaking)thatoccurwhileshooting.Lenseswithbuilt-inimagestabilizationhave“IS”intheirnames.

● Movethelens’simagestabilizerswitchtothe[ON]position.

Shooting

Forfullyautomaticselectionoftheoptimalsettingsforspecificscenes,simplyletthecameradeterminethesubjectandshootingconditions.

1 Turn the camera on and enter [ ] mode.● PresstheON/OFFbutton.● Setthemodedialto[ ].

2 Compose the shot.● Ifyourlenssupportszooming,turnthezoomringonthelenswithyourfingerstozoom.

You can change default camera operation of constantly focusing on subjects it is aimed at, even when the shutter button is not pressed. Instead, you can limit camera focusing to the moment you press the shutter button halfway.

Lens aberration correction

The unique properties of a lens may cause vignetting or color bleeding around the contours of the subject. These phenomena can be corrected.

3 Flash Control

Disable the red-eye reduction lamp used to automatically correct red-eye in flash photography.
