Agony: “She lay there screaming in agony.”

Weather (very important to create a gloomy atmosphere)∞ “ the city was brilliantly lit by a full moon”

∞ “fog rolled over the city”

∞ “ It was a beautiful cloudless night”

∞ “it was a raw winter” (very cold and unpleasant)

∞ “it was frosty outside” (cold enough to produce frost)

∞ “the house was in a desolated area”

∞ :” The house stands on a bleak, windswept moor” (cold, empty and not welcoming)

“He suddenly let out a piercing shriek.”( a short, loud, high cry)

When a door creaks, it makes a long low sound when it moves “The door creaked on its hinges.”

“ I could hear something whirring from the attic” to make a low, soft, continuous sound, specially machines

to bring your teeth forcefully together when you are angry “The monster roared and gnashed its teeth.”

Sorcerer:in stories, a man who has magical powers and who uses them to harm other people

Some tips:

Set An atmosphere of mystery and suspense

Describe the weather

May use Omens, portents, visions

Supernatural or otherwise inexplicable events

Apparitions of ghost, vampires, etc.
