EXCELLENCE IN ACTION: SEAHAWKS SAVING LIVES

HARRIS MUHLSTEINMarineQuest School Program Coordinator

TIM LEWISCampus Recreation Associate Director

On June 18, a UNCW student collapsed on the basketball court in the Student Recreation Center. Associate Director Tim Lewis and two student employees, Andrew Williams and Sean Clark, responded to the scene, administered CPR and used a defibrillator to revive the student before EMTs arrived. Medical staff at the hospital reviewed the AED readout and credit the three Student Recreation Center employees with saving the student’s life.

On May 10, UNCW alumnus and MarineQuest School Program Coordinator Harris Muhlstein was on the beach teaching a class at Fort Fisher when he noticed three swimmers caught in a riptide. Twenty minutes later, using his ocean lifeguard skills, Harris had returned all three young men safely to shore, including one who was transported by EMS and recovered.
