Biography● Jon Satrom is a dirty-new-media artists/ organiser. He is also a programmer and lecturer at the department of Film,

Video, New Media, and Animation at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

● He graduated from the Sound and Video department of School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2003. Jon studied

and worked at SAIC with talented artists and educators like Jon Cates, Ben Chang, Nic Collins, Shawn Decker, Rob

Drinkwater, and Kerry Richardson. “These artists helped articulate my interests and opened my eyes to tools,

methodologies and other artists doing inspiring projects.”

● It wasn’t until he joined the databenders Yahoo group and Flickr that he began to discover other artists referring to

their work as “glitch”. “A glitch is a moment that breaks one from a flow and provides an opportunity to see the

systems at play.”

● In 2002 Jon helped start Criticalartware alongside Jon Cates, Blithe Riley, Christian Ryan, and Ben Syverson and they

built a platform to hyperweave New Media Art with early Video Art. He also created the sOS or Satromizer

Operating System with Ben Syverson, which was the world’s first 100% problem-based operating system’ which you

are able to download to turn your laptop, ipad and iphone into a never-ending glitch party.

● Currently dy day, Jon fixes things, interviews folks, and creates digital tools at studio thread. By night, he breaks

things in computers in search of the one of of a kind blips inherent to the systems we use.
