Antamina Mine

l Copper mine in Perul Key features include:

– Open Pit– Tailings Dam and Pond– Fresh water reservoir– Concentrator– Complex diversion system with multiple

routing options– Mine waters discharge to a river with

extensive human use (fishing, irrigation, etc.)

GoldSim Model Overview

l Contains component models for the following:– Water Balance Model

• Climate model– Historical precipitation record (for benchmarking)– Stochastic precipitation record– Custom User-Defined precipitation events

• Runoff and Surface Evaporation (expressed as monthly coefficients)

– Simple Mass Balance Model• Includes Cu, Zn, Pb, Mo, So4, NH4, NO3

• Comparison with various criteria at selected locations

– Tailings Production Model (based on ore campaign)

Next Steps

l Update mass loading model to reflect results of an ongoing geochemistry study

l Update model to reflect changes at the sitel Examine uncertainty in model parameters

(e.g., runoff coefficients) l Add submodel for the open pit and adjacent

basin
