KRIMEL participation in Activity 4Activity 4 - Utilities network analysis.

Scope of work was distributed between KRIMEL and KAEEC.

KRIMEL : Description of energy network (power and

heating lines);Description of road network status.

Activity 4 fulfillment March 2012 – 1. Coordinating meetings between KRIMEL

and KAEEC,2. Forming of an expert group with an expert

on heating and power lines being recruited, 3. Development by experts of a questionnaire

form for heating lines analysis.

Activity 4 fulfillment April 2012 - 1. Distribution and collection of questionnaire forms

on heating lines within pilot territories,2. Interviewing by telephone of contact and

responsible persons in the pilot territories,3. Meeting the chief engineer of “Southern Karelian

electric power lines” company.4. Making inquiry for the road network of the pilot

regions,5. Making inquiry from Kostomuksha Prionegye

grid company for power lines analysis.

Activity 4 fulfillmentMay 2012 - 1. Analysis of the data received on heating

lines,2. Analysis of the data received on electric

lines in Kalevala region,3. Gathering information on road network,4. Gathering information on electric lines in

Kostomucksha.

Research preliminary resultsHeating lines – Kalevala regionPopulation – appr. 9500.

Main settlements: Kalevala settlement, Borovoi settlement, Yushkozero settlement, Luusalmi settlement.

856 apartment houses, 822 private houses.Centralized heating supply for 25% of the residential

area (32% of population).Electric heating on 3% of residential area.Wood heating on 72% of residential area.Type of fuel used: firewood (12 thousand solid

m3/year).

Research preliminary resultsHeating lines – Kalevala region, Kalevala

settlement Main heating consumer – Kalevala settlement:5 boiler houses,Wearout of equipment – from 3% up to 75%

(53% - average wearout).Total amount of boilers – 15.Total power output – 5,31 Gcal/hour.Total length of the heating lines – 7,8 km.Lines wearout – over 50%.No reserve for housing improvement.

Research preliminary resultsHeating lines – Kalevala region,

Borovoi settlement

Outdated boiler equipment,High energy loss,Big amounts of fuel (firewood) consumption,Firewood supply problem.

Novoye Yushkozero settlement• Firewood supply problem.

Heating supply system – Kalevala region

Recommendations:For the region as a whole – to make usage

perspective assessment of peat fuel pellets produced in the region,

For Kalevela settlement – consider two boilers combination, additional boilers installation.

For Borovoi settlement – boiler renovation is required.

For N. Yushkozero settlement – firewood supply improvement is required.

Research preliminary resultsHeating lines – Kostomuksha

Centralized heating supply – 99% of consumers.

Type of fuel used – oil fuel.Central boiler:

- Total amount of boilers – 7.- Power output – 490 Gcal/h.- Repair of one boiler is required.

Total length of heating lines – 57 km.Years of heating lines installation - 1981 –

1982.

Heating lines - KostomukshaRecommendations:Growth of private sector construction

requires decentralized heating supply solution,

Consider module boilers on local fuel construction.

Research preliminary results Electric power lines – Kalevala region

Research preliminary results Electric power lines – Kalevala

regionPower transmission line 110 kVTotal length of the line – 121 km.Years of construction – 1982-1983.Power transmission line 10 kVTotal length of the line – 71 km.Years of construction – 1984- 2002.Power transmission line – 0,4 kVTotal length of the line – 116 km.Years of construction – 1984- 2011.

Research preliminary results Electric power lines – Kalevala region

Transformer substations:Kalevala – 4 stations, 1983 – 1984.Borovoi – 4 stations, 1981 – 1987.Kepa – 2 stations, 2001.Other substations (low output): 28

substations, 1984 – 2011.Diesel generator in Voinitsa settlement: 100

kVt capacity, 2005.

Electric power linesKalevala region

Recommendations:To ensure electric power supply in Kalevala

settlement, interconnection with Pyaozersky lines is required,

Stable power supply in Voinitsa settlement is required.

Road network in the pilot region

Research preliminary results Road network – Kalevala region

Total road length – 452 km.Poor development of the road network.Roads are mainly in republican ownership.Category of road: 4-5.Status of roads – unsatisfactory.

Research preliminary results Road network – Kalevala region

During the last 5 years no money investments were made into the construction of new local importance roads or bridges,

Total length of the repaired public local importance roads during the last 5 years – about 15 km.

Main objective for 2012-2013 - improvement of gravel road Kalevala-Voinitsa-Kostomucksha by dust control method (within international project).

Preliminary research results Road network – Kalevala regionRecommendations:Reconstruction of Kem – Lonka road.Reconstruction of Kepa –Yushkozero –

Borovoi - Kostomucksha road.

Preliminary research results Road network – Kostomuksha

The road network is underdeveloped.Status of roads – satisfactory.Main objectives: improvement of gravel road

Kalevala – Voinitsa – Kostomucksha by dust control method.

Reconstruction of the road Kochkoma – Ticksha – Ledmozero – Kostomucksha.

2012 Republican planned road works and investments

Construction :Kochkoma - Tiksha - Ledmozero - Kostomuksha- state border road, km 44 - km 64.

Major overhaul:Laying the water line at km 34. + 570 "Kepa - Jushkozero - Borovoi“ roadInstalling a weight control platform on the road Kochkoma - Tiksha - Ledmozero - Kostomuksha-state border, at 210 km + 840

Repair :km 89 of the road-Voinitsa -Voknavolok-Kostomuksha.
