The Site
• 190 acre former gasworks site
• Largest contaminated brownfield site in Europe
• Pre build interventions on Peninsula - remediation, facilities, transport
(including the pier and Millennium Busway)
• Terry Farrell’s Masterplan and Planning consent for mixed use phased
over 15 years
– 10,000 new homes (38% affordable)
– Business district for 30,000 workers
– 350,000 m2 commercial / 34,000 m2 retail
– 52,000m2 leisure use
– 24,000 jobs

The Jubilee Line
• TfL’s recent upgrade increased the frequency of
trains from late July 2011, and in March 2012 more
trains were added to help meet the 2 minute
frequency
• The new signalling system, which allows trains to be
driven automatically, is in operation across the
entire line allowing:
an increase in the number of trains running in peak hours by
a third - a capacity enhancement of an additional 12,500
people an hour.
A cut in journey times by around 22 per cent.

• Opened June 2012 in time for the Olympics Emirates funding of £36 over 10 years
European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Programme
• Overseen by DLR/TfL
• 2,500 capacity per hour each way
• 5 minute crossing time
• 2 million journeys by April 2013
