4. Processed foods that are consumed not for itscaloric contribution to the diet may be fortifiedonly with essential nutrients that are deficient inthe Filipino diet, PROVIDED such foods are
appropriate vehicles for the particular nutrient(s)and are widely consumed by the generalpopulation or are intended for interventionprograms to address micronutrient deficiency in
specific target populations.

the following principles 5.1. For essentialnutrients that are deficient in the Filipinodiet:

5.9. For nutrients without established Philippine RDA,the USRDA shall be used, particularly of the maleadult, 19-24y, 72 kg.
5.10. For processed foods specifically intended forchildren (after infancy and below 10 years), thereference RDA shall be that of a child in the 4 to 6years age group.
5.11. Where no RDA has been prescribed for a nutrient,safety considerations shall be applied and thesafety of the use of such nutrient in a particularfood shall be supported by the user/claimant(producer/distributor)

LABELING OF FORTIFIED PROCESSED FOODS
The following label declarations shall be requiredfor fortified processed foods, in addition to otherrequirements under BFADs food labelingregulations:
