My name is Haley. I live on a farm. In the spring, a lot of the animals give birth to babies. I help my dad and mom count the new babies. We use fractions on our farm to compare how many animals we had originally to how many animals we have after spring births and how many we sell and have left after some are sold.

On our farm, we originally had four cows.

In the spring, the cows give birth to calves. This spring, three cows gave birth to one calf each, but one cow gave birth to two calves. Will you help me count the total number of calves?

Three-fourths of the piglets means dad sold 3 of every 4 piglets.

So we group the piglets into groups of 4.

We have one piglet left over which is 1 of the needed 4 to make another group which is 1/4 or one-fourth.
