The vS252 is a multifunction optical
interface card in the high-definition group
of the ventura™ product line. The card is
dual-channel and supports transport stream
(TS) bit rates from 10Mbps through 1.5Gbps.
It can be operated in various modes providing
optical transport, protection and monitoring
of HD-SDI, SDI, ASI and SMPTE-310 video.

This powerful HD/SD processor can be configured to provide electrical to optical, optical to electrical interfacing or as an optical to optical repeater and/or wavelength shifter. With two fully independent channels the card can also operate as an HD/SD transceiver, a 2x2 changeover switch* or an automatic HD/SD protection switch* in either the electrical or optical domain. The unique design provides full jitter management of all HD/SD rates. 1310/1550nm wavelengths as well as the sixteen CWDM wavelengths are supported using a comprehensive range of Nevion provided SFP optical modules. SFP DWDM is supported scrambling that allows SMPTE pathological patterns to pass error-free through all DWDM network elements. Network management provides detailed analysis of signal status, with CRC checking as well as optical interface monitoring and card status with web browser and SNMP support. Control of all card functions is available through network management or through on-board switches. The card is ideal for different telco environments where both large losses and poor dispersion characteristics associated with legacy fiber plant are overcome with carrier class long-reach optics and jitter management techniques unique to Nevion equipment designs.

There are two rows of nine lED’s comprehensively signaling the status and alarm conditions of each channel. Depending on the configuration of the card the lED’s have different meanings. This is tabulated in the manual.

The ventura AEMS shelf element manager, FCS183, provides a comprehensive set of status, control and alarm variables through a Web interface. The FCS183 is a powerful linux based embedded management system that also supports SNMP and XMl. It also acts as an agent for card upgrades capable of storing multiple images for each card in the vS103 or vS101 platforms and supplying these images under operator control.

VS252-SFP-SFP (1310/1550nm and CWDm applications) VS252-SFPD-SFPD (DWDm applications) SFP and SFPD represent locations for small form factor pluggable (SFP) optical devices. The vS252 supports both standard and DWDM applications. However to use DWDM SFP’s the vS252 must be ordered with a special adapter. This adapter may be field retrofitted or the vS252 can be returned to the factory for conversion to DWDM. Consult factory for details. SFP denotes use of one of the Nevion SFP-Tv or SFP-TRv family of high performance video SFP’s covering 1310/1550nm and CWDM wavelengths with both PIN and APD receiver options. Please see the Nevion SFP Selection Guide for further details. SFPD denotes the use of DWDM SFP’s. These devices are available as transceivers. Please see the Nevion SFP Selection Guide for further details.
