reason to have a party or just

get together and also sup-

ports the Homeowners Asso-

ciation Social efforts."

Our fall activities will be kick-

ing off with an Ice Cream

Social on August 22nd.

Watch for more details about

this fun event. Bunko groups

will be starting up in Septem-

ber. A neighborhood adult

party is being planned. If you

have any ideas for things you

would like the club to do,

please don't hesitate to con-

tact Dora or me.

Enjoy these last days of

summer !

Etta & Dora

We are now in the dog

days of summer, a time

that is usually the hottest

of the year. What a change

this year! I've lived in Char-

lotte for 19 years and I don't ever

remember a summer like this

one. My grass is still green in-

stead of crunchy brown (if you

don't count the fungus spots); I

haven't had to water my garden in

several weeks; many days I have-

n't even had to water my hanging

pots; my pool temperature never

made it to 90. Very unusual!!

It won't be long until school is

starting up. Uniforms and school

supplies are featured in all the

ads. My youngest child is 39 but I

still have the urge to buy mark-

ers, crayons, glue sticks and

notebook paper at this time of

the year.

Another thing starting up is our

Hunters Gate Women's Club

activities. As a member of the

HGWC you might be asked

"What is the Women's Club?". A

former, very wise President of

our club once answered this

question by saying "It is working

stay at home moms, working

women, married women, single

women, sisters and friends. It is

a support group, a group that

cares about those less fortu-

nate and participates in charity

events. The Women’s Club is a

group that always looks for a

Letter from the Co-Presidents:

Hi all and THANK YOU!

Classroom Central https://www.classroomcentral.org is a nonprofit organization that collects school supplies

and distributes them to students living in poverty through our Teacher Free Store. Last year, Classroom Central

distributed over $5.4 million in free school supplies to schools in 6 districts (Mecklenburg, Gaston, Union, Ire-

dell, City of Kannapolis (N.C) and Lancaster county (S.C).

Over 98% of the supplies we distribute are donated. We receive no state, federal, school system or United Way

funding... which is why every donated item is so important. Every pencil, composition book, eraser, makes a

difference to a child living in poverty.

With that said, each year, I host a friends and neighbors supply drive to help stock the shelves of the Teacher

Free Store at Classroom Central. Last year we collected over 1,200 items! I hope to collect 1,500 items this

year and we have started off well – we have 518 items so far!!! That means over 500 sets of little hands will

receive paper or pencils or a ruler from YOU to help them succeed in the classroom!

I need YOUR help to reach the 1,500 item goal...(This is also a great community service project for your students

needing community service hours J ). To help you get the

most value for your shopping dollar, I will send you sale

flyer information on Sundays during this drive:

DATES of SUPPLY DRIVE: Sunday 7/21- Wednesday 8/7

MOST NEEDED ITEMS (Feel free to buy anything), but

here are some of the items that we never have enough of:

Pencils, Packs of erasers, Rulers, Composition Books, Fill-

er / Loose leaf paper

WHERE to DELIVER:

If you would like to participate, please feel free to drop donations of new school supplies to our house: 6909

Royce Ct. I’ll be glad to take them in to Classroom Central. I have a plastic tub with a lid outside of the house

in the event we are not home. Please put your donation in a plastic bag (just in case rain makes its way inside

the tub). Note: Don’t be alarmed, Mr. Jenkins will probably bark when you drop by

DONATION RECEIPTS:

Classroom Central is a 501c3 charity and your gifts are tax deductible (and greatly appreciated). If you would

like a receipt, just leave your full name, address and email address on a slip of paper in your bag. I will make

sure you receive a donation receipt via mail.

From the 9,000 educators who shop in our store, the 135,000 students that benefit from our program and our

(small but mighty) staff of 11, thanks so much!
