The first mill in the Mohawk Valley opened in 1848.Maker of bed linens.The Utica Steam Cotton Mills was one of the first manufacturing plants in the

g pMohawk Valley to use steam instead of water power.Peak production reached in 1910.By the mid-1950s, most of the textile mills in Oneida County were gone. The “loom-to-gloom” era (now termed Rust Belt) had begun.
