Started in 1996 at Cincinnati Ohio Children’s

Hospital by an ER nurse named Erin Riehle

Taught an individual with Downs Syndrome to

sterilize dental equipment

What is Project SEARCH

1 school year long UNPAID internship at Kaiser

Permanente

Vocational Training program

For students on the Alternate Curriculum

Partnership between Kaiser Perm/LAUSD/ WRC/

Entrance Requirements

Last year of eligibility in LAUSD 20/21yrs old (could be 19) and on the Alternate Curriculum

Client of Westside Regional Center

Student wants to work and parents want them to work

Appropriate behavior for the work place, has had previous work or volunteer experience and able to travel independently

continued

Can Pass a back ground check

Willing to update vaccinations, if needed

The Process

1st Attend an informational meeting on

Nov.15, 2017 or Jan. 23, 2018 at Westside

Regional Center

2nd turn in an application

3rd interview and complete a skills test

4th be accepted to Project SEARCH

The Process

5th fill out paper work to become a Volunteer of Kaiser Permanente

6th go through the Volunteer Services orientation

7th be cleared by Employee Health to become a Volunteer/ get Kaiser ID

8th start Project SEARCH Boot Camp in summer school of 2018

What does a year look

like?

3- 10 to 12 week rotations in a Department

3- interviews

2- transition weeks

6- Employment planning meetings (every 5-6 weeks)
