Hoisting Grips for Coaxial Cable and Elliptical Waveguide

The following warnings alert you to possibledangers in misusing this product. Failure toobey a warning may result in injury or death toyou or to others.

• Do not use one hoisting grip for hoisting twoor more cables or waveguides. This can cause the hoisting grip to break or the cables or wave-guides to fall.

• Do not use the hoisting grip for lowering cable or waveguide. Snagging of the cable or waveguide may loosen the grip and possibly cause the cable to waveguide to sway or fall.

• Do not reuse hoisting grips. Used grips may have lost elasticity, stretched, or become weak-ened. Reusing a grip can cause the cable or waveguide to slip, break, or fall.

• Use hoisting grips at intervals of no more than 200 ft (60 m).

• Make sure that the proper hoisting grip is used for the cable or waveguide being installed. Slippage or insufficient gripping strength will result if you are using the wrong hoisting grip.

WARNING

DescriptionHoisting grips are designed for hoisting cableor waveguide safely up a monopole or othertower so that mechanical connection to anantenna can be made. The grip is split andmust be laced together on the cable or wave-guide.

When the cable or waveguide is in positionand fastened to the tower members, the hoistline can be removed. The hoisting grip maythen be either attached to the monopole orother tower as additional support for the cableor waveguide or removed.

Place the hoisting grip at the proper locationon the cable. Allow a sufficient length of cableor waveguide leader between the connectorand the grip to reach the antenna input whenhoisting is completed.

2Identify the first three loop pairsto be laced at the crimp fittings.Make sure that the loops are nottangled. It is important that theloop pairs are correctly matchedto ensure maximum grippingstrength.

3Tape both crimped fittings to thecable or waveguide. this will alignthe loop pairs of the hoisting gripand aid in lacing.

6Tightly twist the lacing togetherseveral times at the end of theseam. Wrap the lace around thehoisting grip, twist it together, andthread the remainder of lacethrough the grip. Do not tieknots or hitches with the lacebecause they will not hold.

5Continue lacing so that the seamis straight and the lace is pulledso that the space between bothsides of the seam is no greaterthan the spaces of the mesh nextto the loop. Do not skip anyloop pairs of the grip when lac-ing; this will weaken the hoistinggrip. The grip can be compressedfrom bottom to top to simplify lac-ing.

4Fold the lace in half to form acrease at the center. Starting atthe top, pass the lace through thefirst loop pair so that the creaseis between them.

8Attach the hoist line to the grip.Tie the cable or waveguideleader to the hoist line so that theleader does not dangle. Applytension slowly to the hoist line toallow the hoisting grip to tightenuniformly on the cable or wave-guide.

7IMPORTANT: First, remove thetape from the top of the hoist-ing grip. Then, place both handsfirmly around the bottom of thegrip and slide them upward to thetop. This pulling action removesslack throughout the grip. Do thistwice. Taping the bottom 3” (76mm) of the grip will help preventslippage.

Maintain tension on the hoistinggrip during hoisting. Loss of ten-sion can cause dangerous move-ment of the cable or waveguideand result in injury or death toyou or others on or near themonopole or other tower. Also,do not release tension on the gripuntil after the cable or waveguidehas been fastened to the towermembers.
