MOTIVATION Home security is an important

topic to everyone. I like working with PLC’s. It is something that PLC’s have not

really ever been used for. It also cost a lot for a home

security system.

4

INTRODUCTION PLC’s are most commonly used in an

industrial settings. It is a device that can handle a

bunch of different inputs and outputs. Which makes it ideal for a security system that has to have be versatile.

All of the controls are run through one device.

5

ORIGINAL IDEA Decide what aspect of home

security that I want to focus on. Interfacing a keypad. Interfacing a different motor. Interfacing a snap-action switch.

6

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Inputs Pushbuttons Toggle switches Snap-action

switches

What could you interface with the PLC, and it still be inexpensive.

Outputs Lights Bells Motors

7

Get the hardware that I need to accomplish my goal, and wire it to the PLC.

RESULTS

8

RESULTS Write the software that I need to

controls the inputs and outputs that I decided to use.

RESULTS A system that has an arming and

disarming buttons. A switch that runs a motor to shut

blinds and sets off a security light. A snap-action switch that runs a

bell for an alarm.

13

CONCLUSIONS Found it was a realistic solution for

a home security system. It can be wired and programmed

easily.

FUTURE WORK Add a keypad for more security. Interfaced a better motor for my

situation. Any questions??? Email: bluebird518@hotmail.com
