Problem No. 1

Text Problem 7.15

Problem No. 2

Text Problem 9.19

Problem No. 3 (Aspen / Spreadsheet Problem)

A saturated liquid mixture consisting of 50 mole percent propane, 30 mole percent n-butane, and

20 mole percent n-pentane is to be separated into an overhead product that contains 98 percent of

the propane that enters with the feed. The bottom product is to contain 95 percent of the n-butane

that enters with the feed. The separation is performed at 100 psia. The feedrate is 300 std BBl /

hr (60 F and 1 atm). The reflux pump produces 200 std BBL/hr. What is the diameter and height

of a tower containing one-pass sieve trays on 24 inch tray spacing?

NOTE: The diameter comes from your Aspen simulation and the height determination requires

that you calculate the tray efficiency using the Fair – Chan algorithm and use this value to adjust

the theoretical tray count from the simulation.
