How To Make a Data Table
In Science
Variables
Your data table will include your manipulated variable (the “If” from your hypothesis), your
responding variable (the “Then” from your hypothesis) and quantitative data.
Quantitative data is measurement, when you use numbers to describe something. Examples: measuring length, mass, force, (weight), volume, speed, time, etc.
For example you might experiment to see if increasing the fertilizer you add to your pumpkin
plants will make your pumpkins grow larger.
Your hypothesis might look like this:
If I increase the number of times I fertilize my pumpkin plants from once
a week to twice a week then my pumpkins will grow heavier by the end
of the growing season because they will be healthier and grow faster.
Your experiment should include those pumpkins that get fertilized once a week and those that get fertilized twice a week so you can compare their growth. The more data you collect, the more proof you will have to support your hypothesis
If you had a nice big garden, you could plant 6 pumpkin vines (3 that get fertilized once a week and 3 that get fertilized twice a week) to grow
your pumpkins and collect data.
First step is to name your graph
Pumpkin Growth With Increased Fertilizer
Second step is to add your Manipulated Variable

FertilizedOnce Weekly
Fertilized Twice Weekly
Third step is to add your Responding Variable

Fourth step is to add your Data Table
