How to:

“scrubber” soap saver shower mitt

kootoyoo…click & stitch

Step 1:

• Print & trace the “scrubber” template which can be found here… http://www.flickr.com/photos/15238151@N02/4397968734/

• You also need to have some ready made twisted cord (or ribbon). If you’d like to make co-ordinating twisted cord you can find the “how to” here…http://www.feelingstitchy.com/2010/02/embroidery-homework-twisted-cord.html

Step 2:

• Stitch your design.

Step 3:

• Cut around the mitten shape – add a seam allowance of approx ¼ inch or .5cm.

• Set aside.

Step 4:

• Using a piece of fabric approximately A4 or letter sized…• Double hem & make a buttonhole in the centre of the hem.

This is a great way to practice buttonholes as you’re not in danger of wrecking a finished project.

Step 5:

• Complete the buttonhole.

Step 6:

• Place your completed embroidered mitten on your work surface as pictured.

Step 7:

• Place a piece of A4/letter sized fabric on top of the mitten so that you have right sides facing (make sure you line up the top of the mitten & the top of the fabric) & then your buttonholed piece of fabric on top.

• The buttonhole should be sitting about 2 inches below the top of the mitten & the other piece of fabric.

Step 7:

• Pin into position.

Step 8:

• Flip over your sandwich so that the wrong side of the “scrubber” is facing you.

Step 9:

• Cut around the mitten shape.

Step 9:

• Overcast stitch the top of each of the unfinished mitten tops. Obviously your buttonholed piece is already hemmed so leave that one

Step 10:

• Insert your twisted cord between the right sides of the mitten & pin into position.

• Then machine around the mitten shape using your ¼ inch or .5cm seam allowance.

Step 11:

• Trim your seams & clip the curves if you like.

Step 12:

• Fold over the overcast mitten top as pictured. This is to create the casing for the elastic.

Step 13:

• Machine around the casing. I left a casing about ¾ of an inch or 1.5cm.

• Make sure you leave an opening to feed your elastic through.

Step 14:

• Turn your mitten in the right way.

Step 16:

• Your mitten should be looking something like this.

Step 17:

• Cut your elastic so that it fits comfortably around your wrist. Remember to add a bit extra so that you can sew the ends together.

Step 18:

• Using a safety pin feed your elastic through the casing & then machine the two ends together.

Step 19:

• Stitch your button onto the wrong side of the embroidered piece of your mitten.

• This will conceal all the raw edges & stitching inside the soap pocket.

Step 20:

• Fill the pocket with soap ends/scraps.

Finished

• Hang in the shower for everyday use.
