ecently I was sharing with Second Vice President Jane Burchit my dilemma regarding this monthsessage. My goal in each of my previous newsletters has been to encourage, embolden, ignite and
mpower members to action within our organization and beyond. For we cannot complacently sitack and think that somehow the Genie of the Universe will take care of everything related to oururpose and reasons for existence. If we do, we could lose our place in politics as a party and the
mprint the club could make through its community participation.
hink it was Jane who suggested I should write about what membership means. To be honest, Iought it was a good idea, but questioned what I could say without sounding manipulative,
nctimonious, commanding, demanding, ad nauseum with the downer terms. Besides, what doesembership mean?
is my hope that our goal as an organization has been to support HRWF raise its sights in member-hip growth, participate more within HRWF (many hands equaling lighter workloads), and ancrease our presence in community service participation. Making an impact in our community takes
umbers, time, and commitment.
he obvious conclusion is the need for all members to reconsider their time commitments to therganization. Im not talking hours of work in most cases. I am suggesting, however, that each of usecide how we can assist the current chairs with their jobs. Laura Bush will be leaving her position ofking our reservations; thus, we will need at least two people to step up to assist. We have lightened
xpectations of the position somewhat and we will support those who step up to the challenge.dditionally, Terry Roberts has been membership Chair for many years. She could denitely use someupport. Another much desired position is one of calendar keeper. You would be supporting Rose
Welsh. Rose is more of a gift than any of us truly understand. She is amazing, but only has 24 hoursa day like the rest of us. Veritably, for the longest time, we have also needed a Publicity Chair.
gain, its not a great deal of work, and Id be happy to help proofread your writing, if youre appre-ensive at all. Heck, Chris Wennerholm proofreads my work and Im a retired English teacher! Here inRWF, its about working with and supporting each other. There are no queens here, only ser vants.
We could use a small cadre of you to brainstorm ways we as HRWF can involve ourselves in ourommunity to show we care. There is unity in community!
o what does membership mean? I think you get the picture
n another note, one of the dearest members of the Republican Party and Humboldt RepublicanWomen, Federated, went to be with her Lord this past week. Colleen Hedrick was one of the best at
eing a member. We will dearly miss her.n still another note, our speaker for next month, Oct. 17th, is Debi Baciagalupe, who will beforming us about Agenda 21 and its advances within the state, into the country and the world. Thellowing month will feature Orlean Koehle, who will be discussing Common Core and its relation to
genda 21.
Become informed. Stay informed. Together we ght the good ght!

In spite of the drizzle, those who attended o
annual Republican Central Committee on
Sunday, September 29th, had a great time.Hamburgers and hot dogs were the traditional faire of the day,
provided by the RCC. Attendees generously provided delicious s
dishes and desserts, and if anyone went home hungry, it was th
own fault! Ryan Sundberg, Supervisor of District 5 and curre
Chairman of the Board of Supervisors was our guest speaker. N
only was his talk informative and enlightening as to the updatethe General Plan, welfare mandates, and homelessness, but we
the added treat of Supervisor Rex Bohn in attendance. He add
pertinent information to the discussion; and with the additiona
comments and questions from the oor, all left the event with a
deeper understanding of the positive goals and purposes of the
Board of Supervisors to improve so much in our county.
Kudos and thank you to all who were so supportive in th
planning and execution of this event. Thinks couldn't hav
run more smoothly. As usual, the Humboldt Republican Wome
rose to the occasion; and I couldn't be prouder of you or more
grateful for you. With the additional support from members of
RCC, this was one awesome picnic! There is o
person, however, who needs to be highlighte
this article for his strong, silent, unwavering
support of the cause. That man is Gary Fran
He came early, painstakingly cleaned the gril
before and after the picnic, and cooked hamb
ers and hot dogs for all in between. I didn't k
men could be so even tempered while workin
hard! Thank you, Gary. You're the best!
Our picnic date is always the last Sunday inSeptember, rain or shine. Mark that date on y
calendars for next year. Bring and umbrella a
galoshes, because the party is always on!

On September 18, 2013, our dear past HRWF President, Mighty Mouse,
champion for causes and improvements she believed in, and beloved caring
riend, Colleen Hedrick, peacefully passed from Earth, becoming a resident of
Heaven.
Physically, Colleen was a tiny, diminutive ladythe smallest of any of ourmembers. Yet her stamina and energy surpassed anyones I have ever known! Icalled her our Mighty Mouse President! Colleens visions were far-reaching. Ifhe could imagine it, she could accomplish it and she did! During her twoerms as our president, Colleen spearheaded drives for (1) books donated toocal schools (allowing teachers to suggest desired American History choices),2) supported a womens shelter with clothing, (3) care packages for our
military, (4) coupons for military families, (5) club name change from EurekaRepublican Women, Federated, to Humboldt Republican Women, Federated, tomore accurately describe our membership, and (6) the establishment of anannual college scholarship for children connected to our club members. Thisast item took much work and several years to come to fruition. Last year we
decided to name the scholarship in Colleens honor, after all, it probably wouldnever have been realized without Colleens determination!
Having lost her dear husband in 2001, Colleen carried on productively withouthe support of her soul mate. Over the years, Colleen worked as a newspaper
writer and sold advertising. She excelled at organizing and writing onignicant issues. After Colleens terms as our president, her health began to
decline, yet she stayed as active as she could, using her computer and
elephone to communicate and organize for pressing issues. Colleen so lovedher family, her friends, her country, God, HRWF and its membership, andworking to improve our world. While her family and friends will miss her hereon Earth, Colleen is nally reunited with her beloved Bob. He no doubt hasbeen waiting for his little reball wife to join him. I can only imagine howColleen is helping God better organize and implement valuable changes inHeaven. Heaven is deemed perfect already, yet I bet Colleen is thinking ofmprovements that nobody else has imagined yet! You go, girl!!!
The NFRW Convention is behind us and I look forward to hearing althe wonderful things attendees learned. Of course, we are all awaour wonderful Kathy Brugger is now the NFRW President Elect!
We will be honoring NFRW President-Elect Kathy Brugger at theCRP Convention to be held in Anaheim on Friday, October 4,2013. We really are at the "Table". For those attending we hopeyou have signed up for the dinner so we will have a greatshowing. Our CFRW CRP Liaison Dianna Gadberry has beenworking on our caucus meeting to be held on Saturday, October5, in the afternoon. Make sure to look in your agendas for timeand location. If we truly want be "At the Table" we need to beinvolved, so please attend and meet those candidates seekingoce next year.
Next, the deadline for registering for the CFRW Convention atthe Stockton Hilton, Stockton, CA is this Friday. Our conventionwill be held October 25-27th. If you want to make a dierence,be in attendance and help choose the next CFRW President.Even if you are not a delegate you can make a dierence bycampaigning for your choice. We have some outstandingworkshops with great presenters. McGeorge Law Professor RexFrazier, CFRW Parliamentarian Joy Stewart, and former CFRWCentral Division Parliamentarian Irenemaree Castillo will be

JIHAD IN KENYAJe Foxworthys politically incorrect humor pokes fun at himself, at rednecks, and yes, eveThe Religion of Peace. Sometimes people are oended. Most people laugh.
Whats not so funny is whats been happening in Egypt, in Kenya, and elsewhere in the MiEast: the horric attacks, and unimaginable torture at the Westgate Mall in Kenya, where and children were slaughtered by Islamic extremists if they could not recite the Koran. TheMuslim Brotherhoods slaughter of Christians and Coptic Christians in Egypt doesnt get mcoverage on the national news, and it doesnt warrant a speech from President Obama, whfavor of arming these thugs, but its happening, and it puts a new light on Foxworthys jok
