recover
▪ Difficult to determine the status
of equipment using the network
▪ Complex power distribution network
▪ Artificial fault isolation & long recovery
time
▪ Artificial damage & extreme weather

Solution Application features Advantages Disadvantages
xPON
The PON networking structure can be a
tree, a dual ring topology, or an optical
fiber branch. A PON network is highly
reliable, and is not easily destroyed or
impacted.
High bandwidth, high reliability,
robust security, easy expansion,
resistant to multi-point failure
Slight additional construction cost,
complex equipment management,
requires professional maintenance
personnel
Private wireless
network
Pipeline excavation for optical fiber is
difficult and costly.
High reliability and security, easy
expansion, rapid deployment
Requires wireless spectrum, easily
disrupted
Industrial switchMeets industrial requirements and
ensures flexible service processing and
flexible networking.
High bandwidth, supports ring
protection, industrial-grade design
Susceptible to multi-point failure,
low fiber resource utilization rate
Public wireless
network
Pipeline excavation for optical fiber is
difficult, and deployment costs are too
high. The public wireless network can be
rented or cooperate with other public
networks.
No network deployment and
maintenance, less investment
required.
Poor privacy, low reliability,
inadequate security and bandwidth;
no support for service
development; subject to 2G/3G
telecom operators

xPON Solution for Power AMI
Working with the OLT, the ONUs
provide transparent channels for
transmitting user electricity information
intelligently.
1.The ONUs are connected to
concentrators using FE/RS485, and
the concentrators are connected to
collectors using electrical cables.
2.The ONUs transmit the received
information to the OLT.
3.The OLT forwards the information to
the upper layer device, which then
reports the information to the
electricity AMI server.

Beijing Electric Power Company: Electricity AMI, FTTH, and xPON Solution
Background and Customer Requirements
Beijing Electric Power Company, a leader in China’s
electric power industry, constructs and operates power
grids that cover 16,800 square kilometers in Beijing.
The company provides high-quality, reliable, and
economical power for 4.8 million customers.
Provide electricity AMI and fiber to the home for 4703
households in the Zhonghong community in Beijing.
Solution
Deploy MA5683T and MA5621 devices to provide AMI
services. An OLT MA5683T covers 10 buildings, and 16
or 17 ONU MA5621 devices are installed in each
building. Each ONU uses an RS485 serial port to
connect to 30 electricity meters.
The MA5680T and HG8247/850E devices are used for
the FTTH service. The fiber is divided into two branches
when it passes the floor box. One is connected to the
optical splitter, and the other is connected to the optical
cable for access to the home.
