What is hunting?

• Hunting has two working definitions– Hunting is a sport (animals are scouted and killed

for the enjoyment)– Hunting is a means of survival or a main source of

food

Why is it legal to hunt?

• Without hunting there would be a large overpopulation of deer – This would not be good for deer or the

environment

Some Common laws

• Must wear blaze orange when walking through woods

• Can shoot between the times of 30 min before sunrise and 30 min after sunset

• No spotlighting after 11p.m.• Illegal to hunt with a light of any kind• Illegal to shoot toward from or across any road

• Knives are not really used for hunting but used more for relieving an injured deer

Deer hunting with use of dogs

• Dog hunting is only allowed in the eastern part of North Carolina

• Dogs are not permitted in hunting bear• Dogs can be used in all counties if being used

to find a wounded deer

• Baiting is legal for anything except bear• Bait used– Corn– Salt blocks– Acorns – Scent attractant – Decoys – Food plots

Places to hunt

• Hunting is done in/on– Game lands– Hunting clubs– Fields – And of course in the woods

• Hunting is prohibited in residential areas for the safety of other people
