FEKO
14.0.432 Release Notes
Introduction
FEKO 14.0.432 is a bug-fix update that includes a feature for reading *.mat files. The details are
documented below.
Note: FEKO 14.0.432 is a cumulative update and contains changes from all previous updates. It
should be applied to an existing FEKO 14.0 installation (that may or may not have been updated
previously).
CADFEKO and CADFEKO_BATCH
Version 14.0.432-293039 from 2016-12-06
Resolved Issues
Removed a CEM validation check that was given when the face medium was set to any layered
dielectric when using the MLFMM solver. CEM validate falsely indicated that "MLFMM is not
supported in conjunction with thin dielectric sheets applied to dielectric boundaries". The check
is now performed correctly for multilayered dielectrics, giving the error message "The
multilayered thin dielectric sheet LayeredDielectric1 on Geometry.Face1 lies on a dielectric
boundary. Only single-layered thin dielectric sheets are supported on dielectric boundaries."
Resolved an issue with exporting geometry to Parasolid (*.x_t / *.x_b) and ACIS (*.sat) files
that solids were exported as shells. Solids are now exported as solids and shells as shells.
POSTFEKO
Version 14.0.432-293039 from 2016-12-06
New Features
The API provides new methods for importing data from *.mat files.
Resolved Issues
Resolved the issue that the amplitude of a double exponential piecewise pulse time signal is not
taken into account correctly.
FEKO Kernel
Version 14.0.432-654 from 2016-12-07
Resolved Issues
Resolved an issue that could lead to segmentation violations for certain models that contain
connection basis functions.
Fixed a segmentation violation that occurred when explicitly requesting only the scattered
component of the RCS when using RL-GO.
Resolved an issue that caused a floating point exception during parallel runs with certain
combinations of radiating cables, windscreens and multiple requests.

14.0.431 Release Notes
Introduction
FEKO 14.0.431 is a bug-fix update. The details are documented below.
Note: FEKO 14.0.431 is a cumulative update and contains changes from all previous updates. It
should be applied to an existing FEKO 14.0 installation (that may or may not have been updated
previously).
CADFEKO and CADFEKO_BATCH
Version 14.0.431-288764 from 2016-10-31
New Features
Extensions of the CADFEKO API:
o Added "ImportPointsFromASCII" and "ImportPointsFromNASTRAN" functions for
importing coordinates from ASCII and Nastran files. The imported "Points" list can be
used during the creation of polylines, polygons, fitted splines, imprinted points, cable
paths and polyline refinement meshing rules.
o Added the "Set" method for all objects containing collections of "Corners". This method
can be used to update the points defining polylines, polygons, fitted splines, imprinted
points, cable paths and polyline refinement meshing rules.
Resolved Issues
Resolved an issue where deleting a wire from a geometry part after deleting all its faces caused
CADFEKO to terminate.
POSTFEKO
Version 14.0.431-288764 from 2016-10-31
Resolved Issues
Resolved various issues with the newly introduced Cartesian surface graph type in FEKO
14.0.430:
o Extended the API with "BlockGraphRedraws" and "UnblockGraphRedraws" methods for
surface graphs. The "BlockGraphRedraws" method disables graph redraws for
performance purposes.
o Resolved an issue with the API that Cartesian surface graphs were not listed in the
"WindowCollection" or returned by the "GetActiveWindow" method.
o "Export all images" now applies to Cartesian surface graphs.
o Projects that are saved with a Cartesian surface graph as the active view will now reopen
with the same view open.
o Resolved an issue for surface graphs with "Theta (wrapped)" and "Phi" independent
axes. The wrapped Theta results were incorrectly plotted symmetrically around Theta
equal to 0.
o Resolved an issue where an assertion could fail for certain results when setting the
independent axes of a surface graph to "Theta (wrapped)" and "Frequency".
o Resolved an issue where an assertion failed when unwrapping the phase of a near field
plotted on a surface graph with "Frequency" as independent axis.
o It is no longer possible for the result palette of a surface graph to indicate an angle as
one independent axis with the wrapped or unwrapped counterpart of the same angle as
the other independent axis. Before, when the wrapped or unwrapped counterpart of an
angle already used as one axis was selected for the other axis, the result palette
updated to a third axis with no update to the graph or the axis labels. This caused the
result palette to be out of sync with the graph. It could happen that frequency was
indicated as both a fixed and an independent axis. When changing the source of the
graph to another request and back to the original source, the unexpected change to the
slicing palette could cause the graph to be different from before the change.
o Resolved an issue where an assertion could fail with "Could not match the axes to
extract the data" when the solver was cancelled during the calculation of a result plotted
on a surface graph with "Theta (wrapped)" and "Frequency" independent axes.
o It is not supported to have multiple plots on a surface graph, but the Ctrl+K shortcut key
incorrectly duplicated selected plots. This shortcut key is now disabled for surface
graphs.
o Simultaneously selecting multiple surface graph plots on the result palette caused an
assertion failure. It is no longer possible to duplicate plots on surface graphs.
Resolved an issue where surface currents on curvilinear triangles were sometimes not displayed
after making a change to the visibility settings of the 3D view or the quantity being displayed.
Resolved an issue with reporting and image export where it could happen in some cases that a
trace would not be included on a graph. This affected graphs exported to Microsoft PowerPoint
and Word documents and to EMF image format.
Resolved an issue that caused an assertion to fail in FEKO 14.0.430 when opening a POSTFEKO
session from an older version that contained near field sources or receiving antennas.
Improved the handling of large data structures in POSTFEKO. This speeds up interactions large
datasets, for example adding results to the 3D view.
Extended the POSTFEKO API with the "CombineDataSets" function that combines multiple
"DataSet" objects into a single "DataSet".
Improved the performance of the parameter sweep plugin for large data structures.
The parameter sweep plugin now uses a tolerance of 1e-16. Older versions considered
numerical values equal within a tolerance of 1e-10.
FEKO Kernel
Version 14.0.431-651 from 2016-10-28
New Features
Added support for automatic equivalent source generation for aperture sources that are defined
close to geometry in RL-GO models.
Improved geometry checks for curvilinear triangles - this prevents possible numerical errors for
curvilinear RL-GO models.
Resolved Issues
Resolved an issue that caused FEKO to stop with an undefined error for certain RL-GO models
that consume a lot of memory.
Resolved an issue that caused RL-GO and PO examples with high loss dielectric sheets or
coatings to be computed incorrectly.
Resolved an issue that caused very poor memory usage for some RL-GO models that
requested far fields.
The restriction that the relative permeability and magnetic loss tangent should stay constant
for thin isotropic dielectric sheets is removed for the high frequency techniques (RL-GO, PO
and UTD).
The restriction that the relative permeability of a thin dielectric sheet must be the same as
the surrounding environment is removed from the UTD method.
Resolved an issue that caused an error when importing a stored matrix file when using
multiple configurations in a parallel execution environment.
Resolved an issue that caused an internal error state for certain MLFMM models that use the
SPAI preconditioner in parallel.
Resolved an internal error state that occurred for nearly parallel cable paths.
Consistently calculate losses at wire-triangle junctions to ensure that the radiation efficiency
is reported as positive.
Resolved an issue that caused an error to be raised for certain MoM/MTL models where
different paths are physically connected.
Resolved an issue with loads specified by node position and spherical mode receiving
antennas where scaling was not as expected when an SF card was used.
Only give an error stating that active materials are not supported when the defined materials
are used in the model.
FEKO
14.0.430 Release Notes
Introduction
FEKO 14.0.430 is a feature and bug-fix update
that contains features, enhancements and bug
fixes. The details are documented below.
Prominent features in this release include:
A new Cartesian surface graph plot type
is available. This allows plotting
quantities like radar cross section (RCS),
gain or near fields as a function of two
independent parameters, such as angles
theta and phi or frequency and position.
Two new optimisation methods, the
adaptive response surface method
(ARSM) and global response surface
method (GRSM), are supported. These
methods internally build a response
surface that updates as more sample
points are added. The ARSM terminates
when one of the convergence criteria is
met, while the GRSM continues to test
different areas of the design space.
Near field scan data in the NFS file format
that uses irregular grid spacing is
supported for near field sources and
receiving antennas.
Gain plotted on a surface graph
as a function of angles theta and phi.
Note: FEKO 14.0.430 is a cumulative update and contains changes from all previous updates. It
should be applied to an existing FEKO 14.0 installation (that may or may not have been updated
previously). The 14.0.430 release can also be installed without first installing FEKO 14.0.
CADFEKO and CADFEKO_BATCH
Version 14.0.430-286828 from 2016-09-19
New Features
Two additional optimisation methods, the adaptive response surface method (ARSM) and the
global response surface method (GRSM), are available when defining an optimisation search.
The far field E-field optimisation goal polarisation option is extended to directly support axial
ratio magnitude. This avoids having to set the absolute value as part of the processing of the
handed axial ratio, for example when minimising the axial ratio.
New optimisation methods on the optimisation search dialog
and axial ratio handed and magnitude options on the far field optimisation goal dialog.
Resolved Issues
Resolved an issue that truncated numbers to six significant digits when importing finite array
distributions. Up to fifteen significant digits are now supported.
Resolved an issue that could cause "ERROR 815: No segments found with the correct label to
apply coating" to be given when solving a model containing a coated wire with a port
embedded in a dielectric. This error occurred if the port mesh segment spanned the entire wire
label.
Resolved an issue where "Error 16070: Field data 'NearFieldData1' is a Cartesian Boundary
definition - this is not supported" was given incorrectly. This prevented a near field receiving
antenna from being added to a model containing Cartesian boundary field data, for which
support was added in FEKO 14.0.421.
Corrected a problem where the number of processes was allowed to be specified as "all" for
OPTFEKO farming.
POSTFEKO
Version 14.0.430-286828 from 2016-09-19
New Features
Support for plotting data on Cartesian
surface graphs. A surface graph allows
three-dimensional data to be displayed on
a two-dimensional graph, for example
total gain for a far field result plotted
versus theta and phi at a given frequency.
Far fields, near fields, custom datasets,
maths scripts and imported data (with the
exception of Touchstone files) can be
displayed on surface graphs. This release
supports a single plot per Cartesian
surface graph.
Support for previewing near field sources
and receiving antennas using near field
scan data (*.NFS) with irregular grid
spacing.
POSTFEKO preview of a near field source with irregular grid.
Resolved Issues
Resolved an issue that led to an assertion failing when assigning a value through automation to
a near field isosurface of which the visibility has been disabled. If a near field isosurface is not
visible, POSTFEKO will no longer allow its isolevel to be set.
FEKO Kernel
Version 14.0.430-635 from 2016-09-09
New Features
Added support for import near field scan data (*.NFS) with irregular grid as source data in
FEKO.
The domain Green's function method (used for array modelling) now supports dielectric media
modelled using surface equivalence.
Improved accuracy and stability of higher order characteristic mode computation.
Improved the speed of tracking degenerate characteristic modes.
Export ray field real and imaginary components at the ray intersection points for ray launching
geometrical optics (RL-GO) and uniform theory of diffraction (UTD) to the *.ray file.
Resolved Issues
Resolved an issue where incorrect reflections were calculated for magnetic thin dielectric sheets
and coatings when solved with physical optics (PO), UTD, or RL-GO. This involves models
containing sheets or coatings where any layer has a relative permeability larger than 1.
Method of moments (MoM) and multilevel fast multipole method (MLFMM) solutions for these
models are not affected by this bug and remain correct.
Resolved an issue that caused a slowdown for RL-GO models where a large amount of far field
request points were used.
Corrected a check for the applicability of the RL-GO for media with high losses.
Removed the option to calculate monostatic RCS in a different coordinate system than used to
define the incident source.
Improved handling of certain complex spherical mode sources that are close to geometry.
Resolved an issue that prevented certain examples from being solved in parallel when using
MPICH (not the default) with the Windows operating system.
Resolved an issue that caused an internal error state for certain finite element method (FEM)
models computed in parallel.
Resolved an issue that caused an internal error state for certain examples that use multiple
aperture sources.
Resolved an issue that caused an internal error state for certain multiple configuration cable
examples.
Resolved an issue that caused an internal error state for cable models where component values
tend to be close to internal thresholds of the SPICE circuit solver.
Resolved an issue that caused an internal error state for double negative materials (DNG).
Resolved an issue where an error was raised for certain edge port S-parameter models.
Improved the accuracy of windscreen geometry checking.
Increased the number of digits displayed for simulation run-time. The times for longer runs are
now displayed, instead of the asterisks that are printed out in case of an overflow.
Added a check to disallow MoM wire connections to large element physical optics (LE-PO)
triangles.
Added a check to disallow wire segments from being located inside a periodic boundary.
OPTFEKO
Version 14.0.430-24 from 2016-09-08
New Features
Included the GRSM and ARSM as new optimisation methods. These methods internally build a
response surface that updates as more sample points are added. The ARSM terminates when
one of the convergence criteria is met, while the GRSM continues to test different areas of the
design space.

14.0.422 Release Notes
Introduction
FEKO 14.0.422 is a bug-fix update. The details are documented below.
Note: FEKO 14.0.422 is a cumulative update and contains changes from all previous updates. It
should be applied to an existing FEKO 14.0 installation (that may or may not have been updated
previously).
CADFEKO and CADFEKO_BATCH
Version 14.0.422-285710 from 2016-09-04
Resolved Issues
Resolved an issue that when a coating was specified on a geometry face neighboured by a PEC
region, the property was not transferred to the mesh. CADFEKO was extended in the 14.0.420
update to allow coatings to be specified on PEC regions, but the setting was never transferred
to the solver and would lead to the model being solved without the coating.
Resolved an issue that caused depth lighting not to be persistently disabled. After depth lighting
was switched off by the user, any action performed on the 3D view, including selection,
rotation, zooming, re-sizing or updating any display option would cause depth lighting to be
re-enabled.
