Hypothalamus is a bridge between the nervous system and endocrine system
Endocrine system secretions start in the brain.
Hypothalamus controls what is released by the pituitary gland by secreting releasing factors.
• Thyrotropin releasing hormone = TRH
• Corticotropin releasing hormone = CRH
• Gonadotropin releasing hormone = GRH
• Growth hormone releasing hormone = GHRH
Releasing hormones from the hypothalamus cause the release of stimulating hormones from the pituitary.
-Thyroid stimulating hormone TSH
-Adrenocorticotropic hormone ACTH
-Follicle stimulating hormone FSH-Luteinizing hormone LH
-Growth hormone GH
What do the following pituitary gland hormone do? TSH, ACTH, FSH, LH, GH
Terms to Know• Hypothalamus -TRH -CRH -GRY -GHRH• Pituitary -TSH -ACTH -LH -FSH -GH• Pineal -melatonin• Thyroid -triiodothyronine T3 -thyroxine T4• Thymus -thymosin• Adrenal -cortisol• Ovary -estrogen -progesterone• Testis -testosterone• Pancreas -insulin -glucagon• Kidney -erthythropoetin -renin• Parathyroid -parathyroid hormone PTH
