• Writing: To use different types of nouns effectively

• Create a front cover for a magazine and write an article.

What are nouns?Common nouns are words for things

Remember these always have a capital letter ……

boat, man, woman, sea

Common nouns are just the names of things.

It could also be the name of something like a person, a place, a day or a month.

These are called Proper Nouns

What are nouns?There are words for groups of things that

are called collective nouns.

choir

swarm of beesteam

flock of sheep

What are nouns?Not all nouns are things you can

touch.

anger

love

There are four kinds of nouns:

1) a type of thing, 2) a single thing, 3) a group of things,4) a thing you can’t touch.

It is so easy to forget that

these things

are still nouns.

These are called abstract nouns

Copy and complete the chart with at least six more

rows.

One windy day, a bird flew out from its nest on the cliffs near Dover. Some people had left the remains of a picnic on the beach. The bird swooped and picked up bits of sausage, crisps and cakes, and flew off with a pie for dinner.

There are 16 nouns in this story, in pairs list them.

All sentences begin with a capital letter and end with either a full stop, question

or exclamation mark.

Think about them when you write, and check your work to

make sure they’re all there.

Common nouns are names of things: boy, car, house.

Proper nouns are names of people, animals, places,

dates, brand names and titles: Mr David Cameron, London, August, Pepsi, The Bible, Dr

Who.

Assessment criteria:

Punctuate sentences correctly so that the

meaning is clear (Ws/L1.3)

Spell correctly words used most often in work, studies and daily life, including familiar technical

words.
